These two albums together make such an excellent pair, that this actually could very well be a double album. Each disc compliments the other so much that, having owned this for several months, I can't imagine owning one without the other. If (like me) you prefer J.R.'s later work like Rewind and Realization, this is a must-have. It includes some of his most beautiful covers ever - superbly sung & produced - as well as his own classic "Permanent Change." My favorites are "Brass Buttons", "Apple Tree" (both by G. Parsons), "Enemies & Friends", "Wrote a Song for Everyone" (GREAT version), "Muddy River", "Moving to the Country" and, of course, "Into the Mystic". Sure, it's nice to have the original artists' versions - but I miss the days when an incredible, soulful singer like J.R. could work his magic and make these terrific songs his own. Even if you are not a big J.R. fan (for example, I don't own any of his earlier records - but may some day), but love "singer/songwriter" songs - here you'll find songs by Jackson Browne, James Taylor, John Fogerty, Van Morrison, Gram Parsons & more. I wish J.R. had made twenty more albums like these two!

This is the best Johnny Rivers album. The music shows his full range of vocal abilities. I bought this album for his performance of A Rainy Night In Georgia.(In my opinion the best version of this song). Slim Slo Slider is an album that can be listened to from the first track to the last with pure enjoyment. So just set back an flow along the Muddy River with Johnny.

I grew up with my Dad's vinyl copies of both of these albums. While Slim Slo Slider has it's moments, I personally think that Home Grown is one of the greatest overlooked albums of all time! My favorite song (yes, of all time!) is Permanent Change from Home Grown. I just love the way the songs rocks. But, there are so many great tunes on Home Grown. Rock Me On The Water (Jackson Browne), Moving To The Country, Michael's song... this while album is great from start to finish. Both of these albums were recorded during a religious period for Johnny so there religious overtones to some of the songs. Please don't let this distract you from the music though. It's easy enough to skip over a song or two just to be able to experience what I feel is one of the greatest albums of all time... and it's so unknown! Let's change this!

Next to Realization this is another favorite.Johnny said that this album was easy to do.Fire and Rain and It's to Late were later monster hits for James Taylor and Carol King.Also Rock Me On The water on the album was big for Jaskson Brown.The album is losded with excellant material and with Rivers interperting the songs it a real winner.Gilbert Campagna

Get this CD. Its not out yet but I already ordered it because omegrown is the best
