His brother sneaks one into his pocket and Dan discovers it when he arrives in his classroom. The kids place the worm in a jar and Ms. Stewart encourages her students to research this animal. As he learns about worms, Dan realizes that they would make the perfect present for his mother, who is an avid gardener. Information about these creatures is woven into the narrative and additional facts appear on some of the pages, bordered by pink, rectangular-shaped worms. Amusing cartoon illustrations in bright hues show the characters in action and help create the mood for this funny tale. Michelle Knudsen is the author of more than 40 books for children, including board books, beginning readers, picture books, and novels. Her best-known title is LIBRARY LION, which was a New York Times bestseller and has been translated into several languages. Her latest book is the picture book ARGUS. Formerly a full-time children's book editor, Michelle continues to edit manuscripts on a freelance basis and teaches children's book writing at Gotham Writers' Workshop in NYC. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.

Worms are helpful, and they make great gifts! (trust me, it's a good book.)Lots of earthworm facts, a little inference. The kids in this story get along nicely; as a parent, I really appreciate that. Good illustrations. It's a cute book.
