Nice basic book,

This review is from: Sling for Sport and Survival (Paperback)
The Sling begins with a bit of history followed by a discussion of the sling and its capabilities. A comparison with the bow follows in which the sling prevails. Next is a very good review of the techniques needed to use a sling including the three basic throws and three throws which combine the basic ones. Constructing the sling is discussed and then there is a bit about ammunition and applications.I have played with a sling off and on for about 40 years. Some of the material in the book was very interesting and some was simply hilarious. I appreciated the fact that safety was given several of the 62 pages. This is a good basic book on the subject, think Sling 101, giving enough knowledge to allow careful experimentation and enjoyment. Some of the materials suggested with which to make a sling would not stand up to my primary throw, and that throw is not silent as it involves a sonic boom, or crack, such as a whip makes. So, think about what you are doing, and possible consequences, while experimenting and before hitting yourself in the head as I have done. It DOES hurt. Comparison of the sling with the bow confused me as sling ammo is crushing similar to damage from a club. Bows fire a piercing projectile. To me it was an apples vs. oranges comparison. Bottom Line: The basics are covered with sufficient information to go further if you want to dedicate the time. A bibliography is also included for further research, a fact which I liked. For less than [money], not bad at all.

Fantastic!,

This is a really cool book! I think it is more of a pamphlet though. I have already made twenty seven of these deadly weapons. They are so portable and easy to use. And the best part- you can find ammuntion almost anywhere.

A good start,

This is about the most readily available book on the sling as a weapon. Many of the reports on the slings ballistics are sensationalised in order to get people to buy the book and try the sling. Some back room JamesBondism as well. Still the cost isn't much and nothing better is easily available.

In this book the author describes how to make and use a sling, like one David used to kill Goliath. There are many practice and ammunition tips provided. It tells you also many advantages of a sling compared to a bow or even a gun! in urban survival.

first of all the sling depends on power. second of all technique. this book is a lie if i ever seen one and right now it sits in the trash. the point of it is that first of all its white, not black. second, it gives you a little understanding but lies and says the sling is like a High powered rifle, or it gives you that idea anyway, not actually says it. like it could kill cape buffalo in one throw. this book aint worth your precious time, not even worth reading. 12 photos for six techniques, 2 of which should not be prescribed for Beginners. serious injury is a risk, i threw my back out and wore out my arm and learned to aim the sling on my own without the book. Dilligence proceeds over Intelligence. when it comes to slinging any way. but go ahead and buy the book but your wasting money you dont need to lose.
