Biography

Link Wray may never get into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but his contribution to the language of rockin' guitar would still be a major one, even if he had never walked into another studio after cutting "Rumble." Quite simply, Link Wray invented the power chord, the major modus operandi of modern rock guitarists. Listen to any of the tracks he recorded between that landmark instrumental in 1958… Read more in Amazon's Link Wray Store

Editorial Reviews

Corrals Link’s complete Epic Records output for the 1st time! Slinky! The Epic Sessions, a deluxe double-whammy 2 CD set from Link Wray and the Wraymen—brother Doug on drums, Shorty Horton on bass, and brother Vernon on rhythm guitar and piano—captures their complete raw-hided, fuzz-fueled Epic recordings and some of the raunchiest guitar ever committed to tape! Recorded between late 1958 and early ‘61, our master-tape motherlode features 46 cuts—a whopping 16 previously unissued—including sensational single-sides, album cuts and alternate takes, all with riffs as sharp as a switchblade!

Its hard to believe that Duane Eddy and Booker T.& The MG's are the only instrumentalists represented in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Epic Sessions 1958-1961 ~ Link Wray & The Wraymen, with over 110 min. of music will convince you this CD really is SLINKY!

I love the guitar as an instrument. I like most forms of guitar music from Baroque to the modern. This CD stands out in my collection though. It offers a great perspective on early electric guitar. There is a wide array of stiles shown hear, blues, early rock n roll, surf guitar, etc.. If you like guitar you should get it.

I also love to find music that my son, two years old at time of writing, enjoys as well as myself. This CD had him rocking in his car seat as soon as it came on, along with a giggle cause he new he liked it. A few times it even helped the switch from tears to laughter. He also explored scatting and his on lyrics since most of the songs have no words, but a great driving energizing beat.

One more area of sell for me is sharing music with folks. Both of my housemates who are not musicologists or any of the like appreciate this music. They say it is good upbeat background music.

So basically, whether you are a music snob, a two year old, or someone who just likes a good beat, you'll like this CD.

Get the CD you won't be sorry.
