5.0 out of 5 stars Wow
Its hard to believe that Duane Eddy and Booker T.& The MG's are the only instrumentalists represented in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Epic Sessions 1958-1961 ~ Link Wray & The Wraymen, with over 110 min. of music will convince you this CD really is SLINKY!

2.0 out of 5 stars None of his biggest hits
Mostly second tier stuff and unreleased takes, this is a disappointing compilation. Rumble? Nope. Ace of Spades? Not here. Jack the Ripper? Forget it. Don't buy this unless you already have his greatest hits and just want some back up.

I love the guitar as an instrument. I like most forms of guitar music from Baroque to the modern. This CD stands out in my collection though. It offers a great perspective on early electric guitar. There is a wide array of stiles shown hear, blues, early rock n roll, surf guitar, etc.. If you like guitar you should get it.

I also love to find music that my son, two years old at time of writing, enjoys as well as myself. This CD had him rocking in his car seat as soon as it came on, along with a giggle cause he new he liked it. A few times it even helped the switch from tears to laughter. He also explored scatting and his on lyrics since most of the songs have no words, but a great driving energizing beat.

One more area of sell for me is sharing music with folks. Both of my housemates who are not musicologists or any of the like appreciate this music. They say it is good upbeat background music.

So basically, whether you are a music snob, a two year old, or someone who just likes a good beat, you'll like this CD.

Get the CD you won't be sorry.

Great second CD for those interested in more Link Wray. This 2-disc set has tunes you'll know from Rumble as well as more things you've probably never heard but will love. It's a long set but doesn't get old for me.

Rumble! The Best of Link Wray is the place to start for those coming to his work for the first time.

Not sure how to compare this disc to Wray's Three Track Shack or White Lightning: Lost Cadence Sessions '58, which I also considered buying. But I'm happy with this one!

If you like Link Wray, be sure to check out Los Straitjackets (The Velvet Touch of los Straitjackets) and Man or Astro-Man (Is It...Man or Astro-Man?).

5.0 out of 5 stars A CD Set Of Epic Proportions!, December 16, 2007
This review is from: Slinky! The Epic Sessions '58-'61 (Audio CD)
Link Wray, Mofos!!!!!!!! Alright, enough of that. This compilation features Link's days with Epic. Epic did try to clean Link up a bit and make him a little more radio friendly, but we all know Link can't be tamed. Sure, there are a few tracks here that'll have you scratching your head and thinking, "what the hell?" Epic stuck Link with a few covers of things he probably wouldn't ordinarily do and even put strings on a few tracks!! Don't let that scare you off coz there aren't that many tracks like this. And since we all know Link only rocked harder as time went on, it is kind of fun listening to these tracks for novelty sake. No, Link didn't spend a whole lot of time lollygagging with strings and junk, most of this set rocks like you'd expect Link to. In fact, some of his best work is to be found here, like Comanche, Walkin' With Link and Ain't That Loving You Baby. Yes, this set rocks hard, make no mistake about it. Some songs you'll end up hearing twice coz there are a few alternate takes of various songs on the second disc. As usual, Sundazed has taken great care with this package, and the sound is top notch. I wouldn't recommend it as an intro to Link(though it'd probably still make you a fan regardless), for that I'd suggest Rumble! The Best of Link Wray. That cd spans more years and record labels of his career. No, this is more highly recommended to Linkophiles(after all, who else would buy it? I can't see the average Black Eyed Peas fan having much use for a two disc set of Link Wray's Epic years). Of course, Linkophiles probably already have this cd. So, why the hell am I writing this review anyway? Anyhow, anyone who is reading this should do themselves a favor and look into this or any Link cd. 100% no B.S., badazz, take no prisoners, to hell with your momma rock and roll.
