5.0 out of 5 stars stylish slipcovers, step by step
This is *the* book if you want to seriously recover furniture. These ain't throw slipcovers, that's for sure. Good instructions with lots of diagrams and details to help you make beautiful custom-fitted covers for most any upholstered furniture.

I ordered this book thinking that it's many illustrations would make things "simple." But let me tell you, if you do not consider yourself an avid sewer and very familiar with your sewing machine, don't even consider getting this book. It will drive you insane. I ordered this book thinking that it's many illustrations would make things "simple." But let me tell you, if you do not consider yourself an avid sewer and very familiar with your sewing machine, don't even consider getting this book. It will drive you insane. It's definitely written for people who have a very good understanding beyond "just the basics."

One reason this book is difficult to follow is that it focuses on VERY tailored covers. Not the kind you find at SureFit or the local linen store. The designs require measurements of your furniture piece from every conceivable angle.

If you love measuring and working out mathmatical formulations for hours...get this book. If not, look somewhere else.

I am so pleased to see a book that demands proper measurements and all the specific instructions on any project you intend to do. This should ensure your labor's not to be in vain. If I'm doing the work, I plan for the sewing to be perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars All the information you'll ever need, August 7, 2010

This book will show you how to slipcover your sofa, chair, loveseat- from choosing your fabric to putting your finished slipcover on your furniture when you're all pau (fishished). I have made 4 beautiful slipcovers using this book and following it step by step. Now, this book will help you to create professional looking slipcovers, but the process is extremely time consuming and confusing. You don't have to be a great seamstress, the sewing part is not difficult, but you do have to think! If you get easily frustrated and have a difficult time understanding written directions, you will not like this book. But if that's the case, don't attempt to sew a slipcover with this or any other book. Go out and buy the ready made. You will need about 15 yards of fabric for a 3 cushion sofa, so you'll be spending a fair amount of money to get the job done. For me, it was worth it. Good Luck!
