Not for you,
By
This review is from: Slipknot: Voliminal - Inside the Nine (DVD)
This dvd is not for you unless u consider an interview worth it because thats basically all it is.
i watched the first dvd and for 90 minutes expected the best to come but it never did.its a 90 min dvd of just clips of basically nothing. toilet issues and drinking problems (not slipknot) i regretted buying it and felt let down. not what i expected the 2nd dvd has its moments.the interview and the live shows which we already have more from disasterpieces. thats it.

THE FIRST DISC IS BAD / THE SECOND IS WORTH A LOOK,
This review is from: Slipknot: Voliminal - Inside the Nine (DVD)
I GOT THIS DVD WITH HOPE OF WATCHING AN INFORMATIVE DOCUMENTRY OF SLIPKNOT IN WHICH I WOULD SEE FOOTAGE FROM THE LAST 233 CRAZY SHOWS THEY HAD PERFORMED AROUND THE WORLD. INSTEAD, THE FIRST DISC, CONTAINING THE DOCUMENTRY, FOCUSED ON TOILETS AND A CREW MEMBER VOMITING. THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME I WAS HITTING THE FAST FOWARD BUTTON, HOPING THAT THE MOVIE WOULD EVENTUALLY HAVE SOME FOCUS. IT SIMPLY DIDN'T. IT SEEMS THAT THE FIRST DISC WAS ATTEMPTING TO BE ARTISTIC WITH CAMERA SHOTS THAT, FOR THE MOST PART, HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BAND. APPARENTLY, PISSING IN A TOILET IS ARTISTIC TO THE BAND. THE SECOND DISC WAS VERY COOL WITH INTERVEIWS, LIVE CONCERT FOOTAGE, AND VIDEOS. I LOVED THE SECOND DISC, BUT I WAS DISAPPOINTED IN THE FIRST DISC WHICH HAD HORRIBLE SOUND QUALITY, CONFUSING MENUS, AND NO DIRECTION.

I love Slipknot but I'm pissed that they allowed this piece of garbage into the hands of the maggot faithful. Disc1 is without a doubt the stupidest piece of[..]Ive ever seen. Why did i pay to watch some no-name idiot band roadie/hanger-on chug Jager and puke. Or watch someone else unclog a toilet, Im not kidding thats how this thing opens. Watching someone take a piss up close, or watching thier security goons beat up a fan half thier size, is this supposed to be "hardcore" or "heavy"?? The audio is terrible, you cant even tell what song is being played. I think this was put together as an art project by Saint Marys School for the Deaf and Blind. Disc2 (almost) makes up for it with interviews and videos but I'm very disappointed in the "feature". Shame on you Slipknot, you pride yourself in not exploiting your fans and you unleash this steaming heap on us. So I have to say, I loved Disasterpieces, but I will NEVER buy another Slipknot DVD. I hope you get pelted with these discs at your next show. I want my [...] back, from you, personally, with an apologiy scribbled on the bill.

This is a poorly directed video. It is not something you can watch more than once. The concert footage looks like it came from a cell phone.
It's hard to navigate through the menus to find what you want.I've heard Disasterpieces is much better in quality.I haven't seen it yet. Don't waste your time or money!I was expecting more.

This thing really stinks. It opens with a man urinating into a toilet. Later, a guy gets drunk and starts puking. Who needs to see that? The live footage was shot by Shawn Crahan onstage. It should have been done professionaly like on Disasterpieces, a much better DVD. No insight is provided here about the band, what their lives are like on the road, etc. Stay away from this.

Why did I watch this?,
This review is from: Slipknot: Voliminal - Inside the Nine (DVD)
Being from Iowa and in middle school when Slipknot first hit big I have loved everything they have done. So, now I am in college and going to a school right outside of Des Moines and I still have been supporting all they have done. So, when I was driving around one day and heard the local radio station was going to show this in a theatre the day it came out and only doing one show, I thought I just had to go. I went and spent twenty dollars and was beyond excited to be able to see it. So, I show up and see that there really is no one there and I was blown away. It's the Knot's home town, why is no one here? Well I soon realized exactly why no one wanted to watch it. This is absolutley terrible. I thought about getting up and leaving multiple times. The only thing that kept me there was the scene where the crowd rushed the stage and went crazy. I don't know for sure but I think it is from show in Council Bluffs that I was actually at and it was awesome to see. Sure showed them to try and charge Knot fans different prices to see em. So the movie was a waste of time and twenty dollars I should have just bought the thing so atleast I could find something to do with the movie and not be left with nothing.

(Just so everyone knows i am not under 13).
This is one of those DVD's where you either like it or you don't. I myself, enjoyed seeing the band in a different light with the personal interviews. The Voliminal film was not really what i would call a movie at all, but i see it as more of a montage of clips showing the band on the road and them as people, as opposed to entertainers. I enjoyed this DVD a lot, and i think the random clips from the Houdini Mansion recording sessions were interesting, especially when Joey Jordison, Clown and Chris Fehn were playing The Blister Exists, and the 'core' part of the band were playing Vermilion. Anyway, you don't have to agree with my opinion, but i'm just saying i enjoyed the DVD despite the sound quality on the first disc. Looking forward to a new album and i hope they break the modern metal mould and try new styles, and i'd like to see more input by Sid Wilson and Craig.

It's no Disasterpiece, it's just a disaster.,

It was really hard to watch it. It's just so damn boring! There were some cool parts, watching Joey play drums is always amazing, but it was basicly just a bunch of little clips that arnt really very interesting. And the sound quality was terrible! The mics in video cameras really arnt that great for picking up very loud concert footage. The second disc was pretty good. It was interesting to see the band without their masks. Also, the music videos were awesome, and the live performances were pretty good. But the documentary was just horrible and didnt really document anything interesting. Buy the Disasterpieces dvd.

Ugh. Stop trying to be a quirky filmmaker, Shawn.,

Long story short, this isn't the documentary I was hoping to see. Instead, we got a "documentary" of 90 minutes of various clips of everything from urine going into a toilet to a crew member vomiting after a night of drinking. I kept thinking that after a few minutes that the weird various clips would stop and we'd get to the story, but it never happened. 90 minutes of 20 second snippets of clips of odds and ends that are never labeled, never explained.
There ARE some gems, though. Such as rehearsal footage of "Vermillion" from Rick Rubin's Haunted Houdini Mansion of a recording studio, a view of Joey's rotating live drum solo (from a camera mounted on the front of his kit), and various comments from band members. Shawn "Clown" Crahan is responsible for this charade, and recently said in "Revolver" magazine that he was inspired by Harmony Korine's film "Gummo", with its jarring edits and quirky cinematogrophy. Good for you, bad for us. It's the type of thing you'll only watch once, if you can get through it. Disc 2 has the great live performances, on par with the "Disasterpieces" DVD. The real gem of this set is the interviews with the band members (all but "133", who says nothing, as usual), unmasked, and candid. It really reveals how ordinary some of them are--Paul, for example, could be a stoner friend of mine. Jim Root is seriously sporting the James Hetfield look here, complete with the horn-rimmed glasses. This is the guy banging Cristina Scabbia? The menus are a joke and a pain, nothing labeled, nothing making sense. I eventually just started pushing buttons trying to get SOMETHING to come up. It reminded me of Korn's "Deuce" DVD, with it's absurd "Asylum" menu system. Avoid this unless you are a die hard fan. Buy the albums instead. They really had a chance here to show us something, and they decided to keep the masks on, figuratively speaking. This doesn't really show us anything "inside the Nine", except for the interviews on Disc 2, which doesn't reveal much. What a bummer.

The film on Disc 1 is actually 82 minutes not 90. Anyway, I thought the film was good and successfully portrays the insanity of being on tour with an insane metal band. My wish was to have seen more in studio recording of Vol.3 with Rick Rubin. Disc 2 is really good showing separate interviews with all the members sans masks. But how come only a 5 second interview with Craig 133? Guess he had nothing to say. The live clips and music videos are great especially for Vermillion and Vermillion part 2. Very cool, creepy, and artistic. The animated menus are awesome and I wonder if there are any hidden easter eggs. I heard there were. I've noticed that this is getting a lot of negative reviews but I liked it.
