THE SLIPPER AND THE ROSE is one of my all-time favorite film musicals. It's ground-breaking retelling of the 'Cinderella' fairytale is charming and heartbreaking, at the same time.Gemma Craven is a delight as Cinderella. She carries the bulk of the score including "Once I Was Loved", "When He Danced With Me", "Tell Him Anything (But Not That I Love Him)" and "I Can't Forget the Melody". Her gorgeous voice (which has mellowed in recent years to a warm contralto), sounds crisp and delightful. Richard Chamberlain dusts off his singing voice for the role of the Prince, singing a varied group of songs like "Why Can't I Be Two People?", "A Bride-Finding Ball", "When She Danced With Me" and "Secret Kingdom". More recently Chamberlain played the Captain in the Broadway run and subsequent tour of THE SOUND OF MUSIC's revival. The Sherman Brothers score (which is right up there with MARY POPPINS and THE HAPPIEST MILLIONAIRE) as their most accomplished, is strong throughout. There are plans to create a new stage version of SLIPPER and rightly-so. This is a traditional stage-musical score. I must thank the tireless efforts of the wonderful Jenni Ferreira for her work in bringing THE SLIPPER AND THE ROSE back from the "Where Are They Now?" graveyard and into the spotlight as the masterpiece that it is. Its thanks to Jenni that we have this newly-remastered soundtrack (which has been long out-of-print) and the DVD of the complete uncut film. Thanks Jenni! Enjoy this masterpiece!

Ho Ho Hee,

For anyone who grew up watching this lovely film, the chances are you're going to love this record because you'll probably already know all of these toe-tapping tunes off by heart! For the uninitiated, the Slipper and the Rose is the Cinderella story with a pig-headed Prince Charming and lots of singing and twirling on dance floors. If you haven't seen it and you're a romantic through and through (or if you just enjoy watching lots of men dancing about in tight trousers and lovely floaty dresses for the women) you should try and get hold of it.Musicals are fairly black or white affairs - you either love them to bits and continuously hum the songs to the extreme annoyance of everyone around you or you can't bear them, and if you're of this camp, I really wouldn't bother buying this because it definately won't be your thing. It's a wonderful collection of fun songs, which have mostly daft lyrics and a dance-around-your-living-room feel to them all - even the slushy ones (which you probably forwarded through when you were watching the film as a kid). The recordings are exact and there is no strange editing going on - it's a straight copy from the film -which is all I wanted anyway. A great buy - but only if you don't mind alienating all of your non-musical friends!

I am so happy that the CD soundtrack to this wonderful film has finally been released. I also feel very honored that I was able to help bring the magic of this film to video, DVD and CD. This music soundtrack is a great companion to the movie musical released last year! The quality of the music is very good, and the booklet includes the lyrics to all the songs!! Also, the cover art for the CD is even better than the video or DVD!This is a wonderful addition to my music and Slipper and the Rose collection. The music itself, tells the story of Cinderella, so without even watching the movie, this soundtrack can surely be enjoyed over and over again! Coupled with the DVD or video, this makes a great gift!

Best Cinderella Movie Soundtrack - truly magical & romantic...,
This review is from: The Slipper and the Rose (1976 Film Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
Finally the soundtrack to that wonderful movie! I first saw that movie when I was in elementary school and loved it ever since. I have seen this movie so many times now and I can watch it over and over again... and now listen to the songs over and over again... The music is amazing (by the Sherman Brothers, who also wrote "Mary Poppins" and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang"). The story is so detailed and realistic for those times and full of humor and subtle irony. It was produced with a love to detail. I can unconditionally recommend that soundtrack. I have seen most Cinderella movies (old and new, musical and fairy tale, ballet versions etc.) and this is my most favorite! Now I can sing along when I drive, work, take a shower, ...

Well, finding this (thanks to a very dear friend) i just had to buy it. On first listen, it was like greeting long lost friends and finding out you still have so much in common. This cd is probably not for you if you have never grown up with the film, as i did, as the lyrics are cheesey and corny, but totally fantastic at the same time. You can sing your heart out as the booklet has the words, and relive all those moments from the film, as just about every song is included. From the hilarious 'A Bride Finding Ball' to the mega dramatic 'Tell Him Anything', fans of this movie will find the songs in their original form from the film , which is all you could really ask for. A treat for any sentamentalist!!

It is wonderful to finaly have the full soundtrack as well as the full film on DVD and video of this overlooked musical of Cinderella. Far better than the other musical, not the Disney film but the one that was on Broadway in the 60's or 70's and had a new version done with Brandy a few years back. This has a much better musical score with a better sense of humor and not overly processed singers, in fact I find the lack of professional singers to make this score and film so much more delightful and believable to me. As well as humorous, Protocaligoricly(sp?) Correct is soo funny and to finally have the the missing verse from "Tell Him That It Wasn't Love" as well as the missing songs is wonderful! If you haven't seen the film, get it and if you have the film then get this CD. The music is clear and clean, a good transfer all the way around for this CD.

What a great album. I purchased it having been a fan of the movie. Great songs. If you are a true fan of the movie then this soundtrack is worth every penny. However, if you are not and are just looking for something new to listen to, I wouldn't if I were you. You have to love the movie in order to love the songs.

Many soundtracks of musicals are slightly different from the songs in the movie, and ergo slightly disappointing. Not so with "The Slipper and the Rose." This soundtrack is just as fabulous as the movie it comes from. I used to have the original soundtrack on a record, and this one is even better! The quality is wonderful. It includes the re-added songs from the new release of the movie, and of course the extended tracks of other songs. Every time I listen to it, I just want to watch the movie again! The nicest thing is that EVERY SINGLE SONG is wonderful, and charming, and delightful, and all other such synonyms. There isn't a bad song in it, which is rare for even the best of musicals. I can sing along to this CD all day long. Gemma Craven's voice is beautifully sweet, and Richard Chamberlain doesn't do a bad job himself. :-) If you liked the movie, then this is a must-have.

If you like Cinderella stories, you'll love this CD. It's also out now on DVD. I have both of them. Richard Chamberlain sings wonderfully as Prince Edward and Gemma Craven is the sweetest Cinderella you've ever heard. The songs by the Sherman Brothers (Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks) are very tuneful and romantic with outstanding arrangements. After I few listens, you'll be singing them too! Buy this CD!!
