5.0 out of 5 stars Very ahead of it's time., March 31, 2000

Too bad the film "Sliver" wasn't a hit, or else this could've been one of the greatest film soundtracks of all-time. While most soundtracks just throw songs together without much thought, there's a theme on this album. You can feel the atmosphere of loneliness, lust, and mystery even if you've never seen the film. Enigma's haunting "Carly's Song" and "Carly's Loneliness" are great tracks to get you in a trance, Massive Attack's "Unfinished Symphony" is downright sexy, and Aftershock's "Slave To The Vibe" is the album's showstopper. The film (which was beautifully shot in an MTV style) could rightfully be a showcase just for these songs, kinda like "Purple Rain". I've had this CD for almost seven years now, and it's still one that can't seem to leave my CD player.

5.0 out of 5 stars A lost and found classic, January 13, 2005

I remember two things about the movie "Sliver": One--it was one of the stupidest movies I'd ever seen, and two--that the soundtrack was so good it was ALMOST worth watching the whole film just to listen to the tunes contained herein.

People beat their heads against the wall when they heard UB40's version of "Can't Help Falling In Love", but they're a bunch of nitwits. It made it to number one on the strength of the band's interpretation--the original was overdone as it was. I liked it, but this soundtrack offers much more.

Shaggy's "Oh Carolina" was a dancefloor classic and still remains a staple of any self-respecting club. Enigma's bookends "Carly's Song" and the reprise "Carly's Loneliness" represent the band's zenith, and when you throw in Massive Attack's "Unfinished Symphony", you've got a powerhouse album that still holds up.

One of the best soundtracks of the 90s, hands down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast Becoming a Cult Classic?, November 5, 2001

I first saw the movie Sliver when I was a junior in high school. My girlfriends and I ended up seeing it four times in the theater. It was dark, lonely, and sexy...a story of awakening female sexuality...perfect for what four teenage Catholic schoolgirls were feeling at the time. The soundtrack was this feeling, made portable. I recently re-descovered it, and it really takes me back. I'm not surprised to learn that there are other people out there who still find this soundtrack as sexy and haunting, although quirky, as the B movie that inspired it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of Enigma, and Massive Attack, May 11, 2000

I got one of my first tastes of Enigma via this soundtrack. I have tried to collect all of their CD's since but nothing holds up like The Age of Loneliness. A haunting, longing song that will have you remembering times long past. If you find that maxi GET IT. The song my Massive Attack is one of my five or ten most heartfelt songs also. Listening to that song at night does strange things to me. This is one of the best albums to make love to. The heavy metal is very melodic and stays with you. As overplayed as UB40's Can't help falling in love with you was it is still a great tune eight years after this BOMB of a movie came out. You'll know no doubt be a Slave to this Vibe and your woman will definitely think she is the most Beautiful Girl in the World. This is the greatest soundtrack album EVER. One of my essential CD's even after all this time.

Awesome CD, the best ever made, to go with the BEST MOVIE EVER MADE "SLIVER". This dark, passionate soundtrack really pops the spot for the film's dark passionate nature! BUY THE MOVIE, BUY THE BOOK, AND DON'T YOU DARE FORGET THE CD! The best songs are ENIGMA - CARLY'S SONG, and ENIGMA - CARLY'S LONELINESS

4.0 out of 5 stars Bad movies=Good Music and Good Movies=Bad Music?, July 31, 1998
This review is from: Sliver: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
Why does that always seem to happen? The soundtrack is great. Many of my favorite artists came from this CD. I learned of the "Lords Of Acid" ("Lust" is classic), "Fluke", "Massive Attack", "Verve" and "Enigma". "UB40" was the only mainstream name on this CD and became the most annoying song on the soundtrack. Did anyone notice that "Can't Help Falling In Love" was the only song on the CD that really didn't seem to fit? Well, beside all of that, this CD is a great buy. You'll discover some great hidden treasures.

5.0 out of 5 stars progressive sound, July 16, 1998
This review is from: Sliver: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
The movie was crap (especially the ending) but the CD is excellent. UB40's reggae version of the Elvis ballad begins the CD. Highlights include Enigma's erie "Carly's Song". Fluke's "Slid" is kind of a techno meets rasta deal. Lords of Acid have a versy sexy techno track called "The Most Wonderful Girl". An early Verve song called "Star Sail" is on here. The two best songs of the CD are Massive Attacks wickedly touching "Unfinished Sympathy", kind of a shuffly vibe-y sleaze song with nice drum machine tick to it. And then Neneh Cherry's "Move With Me", which is a softer more emotional side of the hip-hopstress. She actually has a very good voice and can sing well!

5.0 out of 5 stars This movie never made it to DVD?, September 17, 2008

OK, it's a soundtrack for a movie... But, still! Enigma's "Carly's songs", hello; Only place they can be found. Beat music. Acid rock. Reggae. On the same CD?

One of the very best music mixes I've ever found - Not for children. The "I'm Touching Myself" track got nervous looks from the teens, so I usually skipped it. Probably why this great movie experience got skipped as well. Sad. But, Rocking on all fronts from my stereo!
