Editorial Reviews

Review

‘Oh just a sliver please’ is the phrase we use when asking for a small amount of something and these projects are based on the use of fabric slivers to create a different approach and look to your quilts. So, what exactly is a sliver in this context? It is a folded piece of narrow fabric, a ‘sliver’ which is inserted into a tuck in the background fabric of the quilt design, thus encasing the raw edges into the tuck while the folded edge of the sliver is revealed on the fabric surface. Sounds complicated, but we are assured by the author that it is easy and has many applications both with traditional blocks and in creating your own innovative pieces. This is an interesting idea with lots of potential, especially for the quitler who enjoys a little freedom of expression. --Fabrications Quilting For You Magazine; September 2012

I bought this because I liked the looks of the quilts in the preview. I got a lot more. This is a really interesting construction concept. I have made some sample blocks that went really well. I've become interested in Modern guilts and this fits in well with that type of quilting. It looks somewhat traditional, and yet is very new at the same time.

it's okay. For the New York beauty type block shown on the cover, the technique uses more fabric than foundation piecing and takes more preparation time. It's also not as accurate as foundation piecing. I haven't tried the other applications shown in the book yet, i.e., the straight and pointed slivers.

I like the way you can jazz up a project you are working on with as much or as little sliver touches. I am looking forward to trying it on a top to add interest and make a few picture frames for Christmas presents
