5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product
I have used this product for five years. Never any flushing and it has done a great job of raising my HDL by about 30 points.

3.0 out of 5 stars Much cheaper, release not as controlled
I used Slo-Niacin for several years before switching to Niaspan (Rx required). I take a heavy dose (1500 MG nightly). After the initial couple of weeks the flushing, hot and itchy skin, occurred only about once a week. With Niaspan, the flushing (etc) happened only 2-3 times per month. Now, my drug plan has raised my cost for Niaspan by 250% !!

So, I will be returning to Slo-Niacin--but the cost to me will be only $11.92 per month using Amazon's "Subscribe & Save." This is in contrast to the new cost of Niaspan at $50 per month. Therefore, when the itching comes on I will chant a mantra of "But, I am saving $37 a month!"

5.0 out of 5 stars cheaper and just as good as prescription niacin, April 5, 2010

This review is from: Slo-Niacin Polygel Controlled-Release Niacin, 750 mg, 100 Tablets (Health and Beauty)
I have been taking Niacin for several years. I first started with 1000mg prescription Niacin at approx $2000.00 /yr. After doing some homework and finding Slo Niacin (by Upsher-Smith Laboratories) at Costco for $12.99( 500mg tablets) I talked with my physician and decided to try it. My lab numbers are very good and the cheaper brand is working just fine for me. I have even been able to drop my dosage to 750mg (controlled release) and am still ordering the Slo Niacin. Why pay more? Check it out for yourself. Talk with your Doctor. Mine was unaware of this alternative and was most appreciative that I told her about it. I am also watching my diet and getting a good, hard 2.5 hr workout every other day. That has really helped ALL of my numbers. Good luck. Give it a try. I am very pleased to have been able to save the money and know that it is working for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect, November 10, 2011

I purchased this product and it was shipped fast and was exactly what I was looking for. Much less that if I was to purchase it in the store. I take 2 pills per day (1500mg) to help me battle Hypertriglyceridemia. I get some testing done next month for results and will update my review then. Very pleased with the purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars I have used this and other products like it for years, August 13, 2011
This review is from: Slo-Niacin Polygel Controlled-Release Niacin, 750 mg, 100 Tablets (Health and Beauty)
First, the Doctor recommended that I take 1500 mg of Niacin a day. ALWAYS check with your doctor if you try over 500mg and ALWAYS read the label. Inititially AS THE DESCRIPTION OF THE PRODUCT PLAINLY STATES, I did feel flushing, but not severe. Eventually, I only felt it a few times, usually on an empty stomach. Like others, I take it at night. I was told, and online as well, is that different formulations cause different people to react different ways, so I would recommend buying the smallest available, see if it works for you, and go forward. For me, this product has worked well, and all my bloodwork improved greatly. This with 1200mg of Omega 3 and a better diet worked wonders. I cannot see how people had gotten "flushed" unexpectedly and claim it was supposed to me Flush Free. However, as I mentioned, people react differently to all medications and supplements, and realize at the start you may experience it. This is a controlled release formulation, and the body sometimes reacts better to it. Some other products maintain they are flush free, but they may have additives which diminish the benefits, so check the bloodwork, that will tell you. I would recommend this product, and try small amounts first to ensure it is right for your individual makeup.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheaper than Niaspan but the same results, August 9, 2011
This review is from: Slo-Niacin Polygel Controlled-Release Niacin, 750 mg, 100 Tablets (Health and Beauty)
My Doctor originally prescribed Niaspan for my high lipid levels. However, I was shocked at the price -- even with my insurance paying 70%. So I did some searching on Amazon and found this product. I bought some, took it to my Doctor, who agreed to give it a try. After the first 4 months, we compared the lab results and my lipid level showed no difference between Niaspan and Slo-Nacin. Both had the same favorable results to my triglyceride and cholestrol levels. Side effects were the same, just very rare occassional flushing. I experienced rare flushing about 1 - 2 a month with Naispan and it was the same with the Slo-Nacin. While my insurance won't pay anything on the Slo-Nacin, it's still cheaper than my co-pay with Naispan. So, I you are taking Naispan and don't like the high cost, check with your doctor about Slo-Nacin, it worked for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best way to lower your LDL cholesterol without drugs, August 21, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Slo-Niacin Polygel Controlled-Release Niacin, 750 mg, 100 Tablets (Health and Beauty)
If you have high LDL cholesterol and you have not been able to reduce it with diet and exercise, this Slo-Niacin tablets will do the job. The slow release minimizes flashing that is normally associated with Niacin and the results are incredible. I have been trying to lower my Cholesterol for the last couple of years but with no success. I was stuck in the range of 230-235 and even though I was taking Flash-Free Niacin, my number was not dropping. Two months ago I found out by reading posts on the Internet that Flash-Free Niacin does not work for lowering cholesterol. So, I started looking for another way and found the Slo-Niacin which is regular niacin that is released slowly. This worked great. I took 1500 mg a day for a month and my cholesterol dropped from 233 to 130. I was shocked by how well it worked. It makes you wonder why doctors prescribe drugs when a natural supplement like Niacin works so well.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sio Niacin, July 9, 2009
This review is from: Slo-Niacin Polygel Controlled-Release Niacin, 750 mg, 100 Tablets (Health and Beauty)
I have to admit that I took this without my doctor's knowledge and it didn't have a good effect on me since I was already taking Colesteral lowering drugs that were prescriped. I would not advise taking this if you are already on a precribed regiment and to always talk to your doctor first. It works well with a friend of mine who doesn't take precriped medication already. This is rated low ONLY because I didn't take it right and not because of the product. Remeber to always consult your doctor first!!
