Editorial Reviews

"This comprehensive and well-written book should certainly be in the library of any institution where fluid mechanics is an active topic of research. It will be of interest to both engineers and applied mathematicians and... its extensive contents make it good value as a reference text in, and beyond, the topic of its title."
- P. McIver, Journal of Fluids and Structures

Book Description

This book presents sloshing with marine and land-based applications, with a focus on ship tanks. It also includes the nonlinear multimodal method developed by the authors and an introduction to computational fluid dynamics. Emphasis is also placed on rational and simplified methods, including several experimental results. Topics of special interest include antirolling tanks, linear sloshing, viscous wave loads, damping, and slamming. The book contains numerous illustrations, examples, and exercises.

A thorough book on sloshing dynamics, mainly for modeling enclosed volumes such as on ocean tankers.
I am trying to apply the mathematics of sloshing to El Nino climate patterns, where the Pacific Ocean is described as sloshing back and forth. This book, along with a paper by Frandzen, has been very helpful in that regard. Many of the simplified analytical formulations match the numerical and observational results, which makes it a practical handbook.
