Book Description

This new series by Surrey Books launches with an everything-you-need-to-know guide to using the slow cooker, and features 101 delicious, diverse, and recipes, all of which have been thoroughly kitchen-tested to ensure you have success every time you make one.

Featuring a detailed introduction that covers the basics of slow-cooking and discusses helpful how-to's, insider tips, and keys to best results, this book--and all the books in the 101 series--features a simple, contemporary-looking design that's as clear-cut as it is elegant, with measures calculated using both traditional and metric quantities. Scattered throughout are beautiful full-color photographs that accentuate the book's visual appeal. This is a practical, hands-on kitchen resource that will also look great on the shelf--and because its flex-binding is sewn, it's supremely easy to keep open and flat on your kitchen counter while you're cooking from it.

Perfect both for beginners and more experienced cooks looking to broaden their kitchen horizons, Slow Cooker 101's breadth of recipes are drawn from a wide range of culinary traditions. Among the delicious recipes include here:
Beef Stroganoff
Lamb Biryani
Paella
Winter Vegetable Risotto
Corn Pudding
Chicken Mole
Cioppino

Slow Cooker 101 will be an essential addition to the ranks of slow cooker cookbooks, and the 101 series it premiers is positioned to become a popular resource for contemporary home cooks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Everyone should own this book AND a Slow Cooker! August 29, 2012

The Faerys View:

I have 3 slow cookers in varying sizes and I've used them for the standard items such as Corn Beef with Cabbage, potato's and carrots and certain cuts of roasts, etc...I like to use my slow cooker(s) for a lot of reasons - The meat comes out so tender, the flavors are infused with which ever herbs and/or spices that are called for in the recipe, knowing that dinner is already done before breakfast has even started and the aroma that fills the house throughout the day. As an RN working 12 hours shifts, I really learned to appreciate the art of slow cooking but never really found a recipe book that was easy to follow yet had fantastic recipes until Slow Cooker 101.

Slow Cooker 101 gave me a lot of really great recipes that were easy to prepare but seemed like I slaved over them (TeeHee - I never correct anyone either :o] )

The really cool thing is that in the beginning of the book it goes through the basics such as all the different herbs, seasonings and flavorings along with common cooking terms, general cooking tips and a basic ingredient list for slow cooking.

With Slow Cooker 101 I found so many unique yet simple recipes that my family loved. The recipes were easy to follow, as were the instructions. There are recipes in Slow Cooker 101 that will be passed down through the generations in my family.

Some of our favorites are Braised Short Ribs, Pork, Artichoke and White Bean Stew and Indonesian Chicken with Zucchini and that's just to name a few.
Oh, I don't want to forget the Ultimate Mac 'n' Cheese!

The Faery says that Slow Cooker 101 sets her wings a' flutter!

4.0 out of 5 stars Impressive August 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Never realized how many slow cooker recipes there were out there! I remember when my parents used to make food in a slow cooker, and I thought it was so old school but I decided to familiarize myself with one again. I bought one because I felt it would help me save money, and as a college student that is always beneficial. This is truly a wonderful and useful recipe book.

What I really appreciated was the variety. Now there are some definite fancy-smancy recipes that I probably will not be trying out any time soon (hello seafood entrees and anything wine-braised), but there are ones that I will be able to tackle. There are many that I was surprised to see, and I genuinely appreciated the inclusion of ethnic recipes.

Great book, and I can't wait to try some of these out.
