I love Gooseberry Patch books, January 1, 2008
This review is from: Slow-Cooker Recipes Cookbook (Gooseberry Patch) (Plastic Comb)
First, let me say that I am a HUGE Gooseberry Patch fan. Currently I own six of their books: Slow Cooker Recipes, Best-Ever Casseroles, What's for Dinner?, Come on Over, One-Pot Meals and From Grandma's Kitchen. I just LOVE the books. The recipes are very easy, not too fancy, don't take long and always taste good. They are easy to read and the spiral binding keeps the books open flat. I think out of all of the books, I have only made one thing that I didn't care for. They are just great, great books to have around and I love the little tips on each page, the way that every book is broken up by meats and categories and just all of the other little helpful charts and equivalents that are in each book. In my opinion, they are just great additions to any cookbook collection and I love having them in my kitchen.
For this book, Slow Cooker Recipes, I have only made one recipe so far since it is a fairly new purchase for me, and it was Spanish rice. I am making my second today from it, Saucy Potatoes and Ham, and it just really has a lot of basic recipes for the slow cooker. Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of fancy slow cooker books as well, but sometimes you just want to throw the food in and go and have a nice hot comforting meal at the end of the day and not have to create a sauce, braise the meat, etc, etc, etc.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a nice, well-rounded slow cooker book to add to their collection.

Not my favorite but definitely a regular, February 23, 2009
This review is from: Slow-Cooker Recipes Cookbook (Gooseberry Patch) (Plastic Comb)
I noticed several recipes were almost bland, these ones in particular did not call for great flavor agents like onions and garlic or herbs but instead relied on salt from Cream of ______ for seasoning. Not a huge complaint, the extra ingredients are easily added but because of this, of all the Goose Berry cookbooks this isn't my favorite. In fact several recipes sounded as though they could have been ripped off the label of a Cambpells soup can. I recommend buying this book used to save a little money.

I love this cookbook!! I use it at least 2 times a week. The ingredient in these recipes are easy to stock in your pantry and the tips are wonderful. I haven't found a cookbook for my slow cooker I like more.
