I just downloaded this book, and after looking at the huge variety of recipes... I can't wait to try many of them. I typically do not write a review until after I've tried at least one of the dishes...

However, my main reason for writing right now is a problem with the "Coq au Vin." I have always wanted to prepare this French dish for my family, so I immediately zoomed over to this one. I plan on making today. The problem is that the recipe calls for "3 ounces boneless, skinless chicken thighs." This has to be a typo, but I'm not experienced enough to know how much might really be needed. Could it be 3 cups, 3 pounds, 3 pieces... ?? I'm hoping PJ Group Publishing might see my review and leave a comment about how much chicken I actually need. As of this moment, this book is a free offering on Amazon, so there might be higher than usual review activity with this book. I am hoping that PJ Groups is monitoring this book's reviews.

I decided to "wing" it and I began making the Coq au Vin. It calls for cream of mushroom soup. At the end of the recipe it says to "rapidly stir condensed soup with a fork to break consistency and drop evenly over slow cooker mixture." Well, the recipe's ingredients also call for red wine and chicken broth... but directions do not say anything about adding these to the pot. Of course I just mixed all the wet ingredients together. However, the publisher might want to correct this omission. I'll update later to let you know how it turns out.

UPDATE 9/26/2013: Well all in all the Coq au Vin I made was very good. Since I did not know how much chicken to use, I used 3 lbs. I doubled everything to make sure I had enough liquid. My family really liked the result. However, the recipe calls for thyme in the ingredient list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book! April 23, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Held off writing this review because I wanted to try the one for "Snappy Chicken". So easy to make that I wanted to taste it! Chicken, ranch dressing and dry onion soup mix are the ingredients. Absolutely delicious and EZ!

I also will try the pork and pineapple casserole soon.

I appreciated the tips at the beginning of the book for "Tips/Tricks and Safety"!

Highly recommended!

2.0 out of 5 stars Uninspiring January 17, 2014

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Glad that I didn't pay for this book - it isn't worth buying at ANY price. A total waste - the recipes were neither interesting nor different. Sure, anyone can dump a bunch of canned soup, dried seasonings, etc. into a crockpot and call it a dinner. None of the recipes showed any creativity. The heavy reliance on pre-prepared ingredients does not make the recipes healthy or different.
