Book Description

The word "superfood' is used to describe a number of different foods that have been recognized for their high nutrient content. Many superfoods are also rich in phytochemicals and may be a good source of certain vitamins and minerals that tend to be lacking in the average diet.

While no one superfood can provide all the nutrients the body needs, eating a variety of superfoods as part of a balanced diet is a great way to ensure proper nutrition. In addition to providing essential vitamins and minerals, many superfoods provide extra health benefits such as lowering cholesterol, regulating blood sugar and helping to maintain heart health.

If you are trying to achieve a healthy lifestyle you should start by eating a healthy diet and eating the superfoods used in these recipes will help you to achieve that goal.

Superfoods are not a diet but an addition. Make the conscious and thoughtful choice to augment your present diet with any or all of the foods listed below. The best part? They are not a burden on the palate but provide a sea of new tastes and flavors.

We have provided you with a Primer on introducing Superfoods into your diet through this collection of 50 Recipes. Each is easy to prepare while providing a wealth of nutritional benefits that show that eating mindfully can also be indulgent, to a point, as well as fun.

My collection of 50 Slow Cooker Superfood Recipes covers the full spectrum of dishes, including:

  • Soups and Stews
  • Poultry
  • Beef and Lamb
  • Seafood
  • Vegetarian
  • Snacks and appetizers
  • Desserts

I hope that you enjoy these dishes.

Rachel Ryan

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Slow Cooker Superfood Recipes! January 16, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love this book! Rachel Ryan starts off with a list of over 40 different superfoods that can provide a ton of vitamins and minerals and health benefits and that I know I should be including into my diet. I found this list SO helpful as it not only lists the foods but then explains why they are exceptionally beneficial to eat.

Then the book dives right into the recipes. Each recipe is clearly written and easy to follow. After each recipe, the nutritional information is listed. One of the first recipes I tried was the Spicy Avocado Soup which was just amazing. I really appreciate that the recipes are not ones that I have tried before. In addition to soup recipes there are also chicken recipes, turkey, beef and lamb, lasagna, seafood and so much more. The fact that all of the dishes are made in a slow cooker is definitely a bonus! The pictures that accompany the recipes are amazing too.

All in all, this is a really good recipe book. Excellent recipes and excellent information about superfoods. I highly recommend!

4.0 out of 5 stars Unique Recipes in the Slow Cooker! February 25, 2013
By Beth
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book (I have it in the Kindle format) includes some good nutrition information about more than 40 superfoods and spices. While there are some excellent-sounding recipes, many of which are quite unique (such as "Sweet Potato Cauliflower Soup" and "Cajun-Style Gumbo"), not all recipes include only superfood ingredients. There are several recipes calling for substantial amounts of sugar and refined grains, but as someone who tries to avoid these, I can either skip those recipes or make substitutions. I'm happy that I have found some "keeper" recipes!

Nothing crazy but some great recipes in this one. Some I have seen before and some I have not. All in all a decent book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book with Lots of Good Ideas! March 9, 2013

Categories are: Soups and Stews, Poultry, Beef and Lamb, Fish/Seafood, Vegetarian, Snacks and Appetizers, Side Dishes, and Desserts!

Includes a list of Superfoods with information of each.
Includes a list of Superspices with information of each also.

A big plus for me is the nutrition is included with the recipes! I do wish the serving size would be included with each recipe such as "1 cup" so I do not have to figure out how to divide the dish up. With my diet restrictions I need this in all cookbooks! I cannot use some recipes that call for sugars or white flour. If you can use this then use them and have a bite for me!

I do wish it had included the size of the crock pot/slow cooker for each recipe.

I have found several recipes to use! This is saying something with the diet limits I have now! I am definitely going to keep using the "Spicy Avocado Soup"!

My family really enjoyed the recipe, looking forward to the rest of them.
Some of them used items my family won't eat.
