Another classic Man lp on CD reissue, faithfully remastered with six added bonus tracks. Originally released in early 1975, belongs right along side of your other Man CD's, like 'Do You Like It Here Now, Are You Settled In?', 'Live At The Padget Rooms, Penarth', etc. Might sound a bit different than earlier Man records, but that's because keyboardist Malcolm Morley had now left the band and Man was now down to a four piece instead of a five piece. Liked the opener "Hard Way To Die" for it has a nicely played instrumental segment late in the song, "Grasshopper" has a smooth flow to it, "Rock And Roll You Out" is a great upbeat blues rocker as only this Welsh band can pull it off and "You Don't Like Us" features some catchy riffs. As for the extra cuts, there are four live songs taken from a 1975 gig in Berkley, California - a few of them are tunes from earlier Man albums - the rocking "Somebody's Calling" and "Many Are Called, But Few Get Up". I found myself a few times playing these bonus tracks without playing the entire disc. This particular Man title reminds me of Allman Brothers Band (at times), Savoy Brown and Wishbone Ash. Definitely, a should-have.

When I first bought this album I was somewhat disappointed. The merging of Man and Help Yourself into one band for 'Rhinos' and the subsequent 1999 Space Party tour, was exciting. And the loss of Malcolm Morley and the reduction of the band to a four piece was a let down. Gone was the arena rock majesty of Roy Thomas Baker production. What followed was seemingly a hastily slapped together collection of very sparsely arranged songs.

Looking back on the album over twenty years later, however, it has held up surprisingly well. There are a number of great songs here, and they are performed with great energy. It's not surprising that this material stayed in the live set while 'Rhinos' was left by the wayside. Even when I saw them during the 1999 Space Party there was no material from 'Rhinos' in the set. True they only played four songs. This was also their last studio album for United Artists. They turned in one last live album to finish the contract and went off for a brief stay at MCA.

i think this lp is a very good one. i especially like the song day and night.rock and roll you out,and you don't like us are also excellent.i bought this album in 1974 when it first came out. I'd never heard of man or any of the bands any of the members had ever played in.i am so glad that i bought it on a whim.no disappointments,just good guitar,lyrics,...it's not heavy like the scorpions or judas priest,but it's just as good!check it out!kick out the jams!
