Book Description

June 10, 2009
In this breakthrough manual, you will learn the way that many great masters and teachers in various disciplines recommend we learn things, the way they developed their amazing skill. It is astounding to discover that, at root, they all eventually excelled in their art using the same approach, and this has been used for centuries in martial arts, in fencing, and, in the post-modern era, in a variety of sports. It is known as the slow motion practice method, and we find it used by virtually all great performers in the world of pianists, violinists, guitarists, and other musicians. In golf, Ben Hogan exemplified an outstanding example of this method, but he kept it hidden from almost everyone until recently, when some very rare footage of him appeared on the INTERNET. However, it is difficult for a serious golfer to take advantage of this method unless he or she has it properly explained. This is what my book and invention provide to the international golfing public for the first time.

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Teach a Skill- This is a Must for your library November 29, 2009
While lacking in gloss and flashy 'program of the month'style which typifies the genre...this work exemplifies the common sense wisdom of the ages. This book isn't so much about what to think...but instead 'how to think' about movement patterns. If you teach a skill or a movement pattern, this book should be in your library.

What's better? 1. Do nothing and expect to improve your skill, 2. practice the skill, 3. visualize yourself practicing the skill. An abundance of studies have shown that #3 is actually equivalent to #2 in the choices above. The reason? By imagining yourself performing the skill your nervous system acts "as if" you're actually performing the skill. The cascade of neurons firing during the imagined event (visualization) is exactly the same cascade that occurs during the corporal (actual) event. Such visualization is used by many high-performing professional athletes and other professionals these days in addition to the actual practice of their skill set.

This book, Slow Practice Will Get You There Faster, owes much of its substance to the studies that have been conducted regarding visualization and the neural cascade. The premise of the book is that performing a skill at slow speed induces the same neural cascade as occurs when the skill is performed at high speed. The benefit of slow speed is that you can observe your skill better and make corrections to the technique before defects or errors in the technique get "hardwired" into it.

There is no substitute for physical practice of physical skills or mental practice of mental skills. This book does not claim such a substitution. However, doing things slower at the start of the learning journey can save you a lot of grief later on. I highly recommend this book for some of its anecdotes as well as the clear writing style and low key advocacy of the slow speed method. It's not an infomercial or a come-on. Rather, the book quietly presents a valuable alternative to training any skill or skill set.

It was Ouspensky who said, "Payment is a principle." The author of this neat treatise has paid the price in order to communicate his realizations about another principle, enabling him to reveal to us the simple yet profound truth of how to become a better golfer. He first discovered it as a tennis pro in Slovenia, and he details here how some established players of his time were applying it back then. The principle is simple yet profound; it should be easy for any avid golfer to understand, but only after reading this book. Dras, in convincing fashion, lets the reader know that the gate to outstanding accomplishment, in not only golf but any sport, is thrown wide open when his principle is implemented.

The treatise is sourced and well-documented, quoting many established trainers from the world of sports. He offers both pragmatic and metaphysical examples in order to bring you to realization, citing, as an example, one well-known tennis pro from recent times as well as one great golfer from the distant past in order to prove his point.
