5.0 out of 5 stars I am the Author and I'm still on my journey!, March 13, 2001

Sandra Dalka-Prysby (Beverly Hills, Michigan USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Slow but Sure: How I Lost 170 Pounds with the Help of God, Family, Family Circle Magazine (Paperback)
Many readers have contacted me and asked if I've kept the weight off. Well, the answer is "yes, mostly!" I did gain a few pounds back, but I took them off right away the "slow but sure" way. I took them off the same way my book suggests. Let me share something with you! Being healthy and fit is a life-long journey. And to be successful, you must sign up for the long haul. My book is a good tool for successful weight loss. It promotes healthy eating and regular exercise. There are no fad/fast diets that lead you to failure. I'm now 56 years of age and I've never, ever felt better. Even as a chubby young girl, I didn't have the energy I have today. Get this book, read this book and then join me on my journey. I'd love to have you as a traveling companion, but, more important, I would be thrilled if you, too, were successful. IT CAN BE DONE and I show you how! Make a resolution now (you don't need to do this just on January 1) to be the best you can be. Make health a priority and, once you lose the weight, what you see in the mirror will be an added perk. SLOW BUT SURE is surely for you. YOU CAN DO IT! You are special and you are worthy of success. SLOW BUT SURE will help you. This I promise you!

This book was a fantastic read. I bought it when I started my program and always refer back to Sandra's wit and wisdom. I have recommended this book to all my fellow weight loss buddies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational journey of a lifetime, April 12, 2001

This review is from: Slow but Sure: How I Lost 170 Pounds with the Help of God, Family, Family Circle Magazine (Paperback)
I read Sandra's book when it hit the bookstores and now I am getting ready to read it for a second time for updated inspiration. Being someone myself who was thin at one time, gained weight through pregnancy and life, lost it, then gained it back by revisiting old behavior, I am finding what Sandra wrote is so true: reaching and maintaining a healthy weight is a lifelong journey, not a journey that ends the day you reach goal weight. And, the successful approach is not with fad dieting but instead with slow, sure, steady steps just as the title suggests. Sandra was so honest in exposing details of her life and her thoughts that you feel like you've known her for a long time.

If you struggle with your weight, you want to feel better, you want your health back, you are interested in a common sense approach without false promises, then I encourage you to buy this book. You will feel inspired. I just wish I lived in Michigan so I could be in Sandra's exercise class!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Inspirational, March 20, 2000
By A Customer
Finally a book about someone whose weight loss story isn't "1-2-3-Voila I'm Thin!" I was amazed by Sandy's honesty. She opens up her life to the reader, setbacks and all. This is a real woman with a husband and children and a life that demands attention whether she's trying to lose weight or not. I felt as if I knew her. She seemed to be talking directly to me. Sandy's story inspired me to get up off of the couch and get back to the gym. It's six months later and I'm going strong!

Thanks, Sandy! I hope you're planning a sequel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a sane, realistic, very helpful book!!, April 10, 2001
This review is from: Slow but Sure: How I Lost 170 Pounds with the Help of God, Family, Family Circle Magazine (Paperback)
Congratulations to Sandra whose "Slow But Sure" provides a sane and realistic guide to confronting a weight problem. In my efforts to deal with my weight, I have purchased and read a myriad of diet and weight books, many of which are now used merely as door-stops. Most of them provided unrealistic and unhealthy programs, and none of them included honest descriptions of what it's like to be obese and the problems one faces while trying to reduce, nor did they include tips on how to cope or suggestions for how to personalize your plan. Sandra's book did. Without being boring or long-winded, "Slow But Sure" supplies the reader with sound, accurate information for a healthy eating plan as well as exercising - which many books skip or gloss over as exercising is seen to be unpalatable and unappealing. It is, however, one of the keys to a successful weight reduction plan. Her descriptions of her trials and difficulties, both with the dieting and with day-to-day living itself, were very encouraging as they confirmed that this book is indeed written by a lady who has gone through it and is writing from experience and knowledge. This was very comforting and reassuring to me as I've also experienced some of the things mentioned. This is exactly who we need to provide us with usable information on how to lose weight. I feel that only a person who has lived it can understand the challenges, problems, difficulties and discrimination an obese person faces daily. Sandra provides intelligent and reliable tools and advice in an upbeat, humourous and honest way. The many photos are also much appreciated - they were inspirational and encouraging as, from photo to photo, Sandra shrank. I was privileged to be able to speak with Sandra and can confirm that she is intelligent, caring, empathetic and knowledgeable and is truly one of the nicest people I've ever spoken to. As Kirkus Reviews states, this book is "a motivational read, full of good advice, yet funny too.". My own copy of "Slow But Sure" is now tattered and dog-eared from many re-readings. To all of you future purchasers of the book -- I assure you that this book is well worth your money and is in fact cheap at twice the price. Get your copy and start reading without delay so that you, too, can benefit from this great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars isn't enough!!!, January 24, 2002
This review is from: Slow but Sure: How I Lost 170 Pounds with the Help of God, Family, Family Circle Magazine (Paperback)
Not only is this book the bargain of the year, but it is literally the best diet book ever written. This lady tells her story from the beginning to what is going on today. It is like reading her diary. There are no gaps to the story-which I really appreciated. She tells you every step she took to lose the weight including what exercise she did along the way. She also tells you how your family and friends will react to your weight loss. For anyone who wants a "Step by Step" account of how a friend lost her weight, this is a "must" read. After reading Sandra's book, you feel like you are her friend. Very inspiring with an honest approach to weight loss. I can't say enough about this book!!

This review is from: Slow but Sure: How I Lost 170 Pounds with the Help of God, Family, Family Circle Magazine (Paperback)
After reading Slow But Sure I was inspired to FINALLY start my journey to weight loss. The reason I was ready is because I learned a number of good tips and advice in this book and I had an excellent guide. Like the author, I, too, am just a average woman with a weight problem who tried so many times to succeed in weight loss. I, like the author, wanted the weight to come off fast and easy! Sandra showed me through her words and her journey that I must be in this for the long haul...She showed me that going SLOW but SURE will work. AND IT DOES! Thank you, Sandra, for showing me the way. I am losing weight and I am getting fit. Finally I found a book with the answers!

Finally, a down to earth book about someone over 40 who has been struggling with being overweight as long as I have! Sandra does not sugar coat the weight loss process. She tells us that it takes work and determination. But, she gives us hope! If she can do it, I/we can do it. That is what this book gave me, along with helpful hints along the way. Thanks! I look forward to the next book.

I began reading this book and could clearly relate to the author's life. It's not a diet book but the biography of someone who has lost a significant amount of weight and wants to share her story. I often found myself saying, "Yes, that's me there!" Overweight people often feel alone and misunderstood. I would also recommend this book to people who want understand a significantly overweight loved one. It'll help you understand them more.
