I was first introduced to "Slowly But Surely" when I gave a poetry reading in Austin, Texas. I was immediately struck by the quality of the lyrics. Being a poet, fine writing usually gets my attention. Jan Seides has an artful way of showing us what it is to be fully human -- to face the pain and the joy with honesty and courage. Slowly but surely, I began to fall in love with this collection. Even to this day, "If That Ain't Love" and "Years in the Future" still touch me deeply. I'll be driving in my car and listening, with tears trickling down my face. There are great toe-tapping numbers, too. A perfect blend of homespun balads and boogie with a subtle touch of sophistication!
