Book Description

August 31, 2009
A creepy cute, voodoo cartoon set in a world of ghouls, witches, and pink monkeys. Slub Glub (a blue glob-like creature) has awoken to find his world has been flooded by the tears of the Weeping Willows. His quest to help cure the sadness of the willows leads him on an interplanetary adventure that will reveal the secret meaning of the world. Alongside the beautiful weeping Willowmina, he will encounter raccoon bandits, hyena-riding witches, a Baron who controls ghosts, Seamort the giant squid, and finally Lump-Lump, the Omnipotent Master of All Reality disguised as a beach bum. Like a more twisted Jim Henson or a rockabilly Tim Burton, this is a brilliantly surreal tale for children of all ages and a perfect introduction to the weird world of musician/artist/author Andrew Goldfarb.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slub Glub Reigns Supreme, June 27, 2011

This review is from: Slub Glub in the Weird World of the Weeping Willows (Paperback)
Andrew Goldfarb has done it again. In "Slub Glub in the Weird World of the Weeping Willows", we follow Mr. Goldfarb's beloved creation Slub Glub (previously seen in "The Ballad of a Slow Poisoner" and Goldfarb's "Ogner Stump" comics) as he embarks on an epic journey with a cast of characters only Goldfarb could pull off.

"Slub Glub [...]" is presented in the form of a children's book, and despite a couple "frightening" illustrations, it works to a great effect. I would see no problem with reading this book to your youngsters as an early introduction to the Bizarro world. Goldfarb has packed its pages full of wonderful happenings, hilarious dialogue, gorgeous illustrations and an unstoppable sense of fun. It has been scientifically proven that a bad mood cannot exist when reading this book.

If you're looking for a great book with incredible entertainment value, look no further. Pair this up with "The Ballad of a Slow Poisoner", put some of Mr. Goldfarb's music on the stereo, and let Slub Glub be your guide through the weird world of the weeping willows.

5.0 out of 5 stars Basil Wolverton in Oz, August 5, 2010
This review is from: Slub Glub in the Weird World of the Weeping Willows (Paperback)
The framework is simple. Somebody has a problem. He approaches the person causing that problem. That person explains that somebody else caused this problem. Problem investigated. Somebody else is causing that problem. And so on and so and so on. We see this framework in a lot of children's books. Why? Because this is how the mind of a child works. Children keep asking "why" until you can't provide an answer anymore. In children's books is pretty much the only place a child gets satisfaction for this line of thinking. So, you might think this framework, the framework of Andrew Goldfarb's beautifully illustrated Slub Glub in the Weird World of the Weeping Willows is a juvenile and tiresome one. And yet, Andrew Goldfarb proves you wrong. Each solution and problem becomes more fun than the last until finally we are left with an answer that lets us see that this line of thinking is not just for children. A great buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tim Burton meets Sid & Marty Kroft, April 26, 2010

This review is from: Slub Glub in the Weird World of the Weeping Willows (Paperback)
This is my favorite Spunk Goblin book so far. Andrew Goldfarb is a completely original dude. From his music to his art to his writing, his work is like drinking a weird potion (or slow poison, if you will) that takes you into his weird and wondrous imagination. It's hard to describe his overall style, but that's definitely a good thing.

Slub Glub is a character from Goldfarb's "Ogner Stump" comic strip. In this story, Slub Glub goes on a wild adventure through his strange world and beyond. The plot is a simple folktale that also ponders the very nature of life itself. And underneath it all is Goldfarb's style, manifesting itself as a weird mixture of Uncle Remus and the Munsters. It's accessible to kids but still very intelligent and hyper-stylish. In short, it's a great read for all ages so start drinking Andrew Goldfarb's slow poison as soon as possible.
