This here is Pete's comic. Is it not nifty?,
By Andy Baker (Wasting away again with the Borg (read the Star Trek parody!)) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sluggy Freelance: Is It Not Nifty? (Book 1) (Paperback)
An absolute must-have for any fan or aspiring fan of the Sluggy Freelance online comic (www.sluggy.com), this first book collects the first few months of the immensely popular comic strip and even adds a bonus story "A Day in the Park," as if owning a portable copy of the strip weren't enough! It's a great way to show people that a great comic strip doesn't have to be in a newspaper to be worthy of reading. Great strip, great book, great everything! Worship the comic!

This is the best comic ever! For anyone who likes ferrets, mini-lops with switch blades, clueless humans, witches, aliens, and demons from another dimension all I have to say is welcome to Sluggy.

If you've read Sluggy, you already know how good it is. It'sone of the best comics- online or otherwise- out there, and even ifyou have read the strips, the books have more stuff too. This book contains a lot of the best Sluggy humor there! Buy this book! END

The Greatest Comic Currently in Existence!,

This review is from: Sluggy Freelance: Is It Not Nifty? (Book 1) (Paperback)
When Calvin & Hobbes and The Far Side were canceled, I was disillusioned. There were no comics in the print media equal to those comic masterpieces. Fruitlessly, I pursued humor on the internet, only to find an abundance of "(Insert Celeberty's name here) Ate my balls," being the only online comics. But one day, listening to the radio, I heard an interview with Pete Abrams discussing his online comic Sluggy Freelance. When he mentioned a homicidal mini-lop rabbit, I was intrigued. I went to the web page and promptly fell in love with comics all over again. I own a copy of this book, and can easily say it is one of the most consistently funny comic strips since Calvin & Hobbes. It has a unique visual style, as well as some of the best storylines in the histry of comics. Add that with all the colorful main characters and the equally crazy supporting cast, and you are garaunteed nonstop laughs. If you are at all interested in comics, then you must by this book.

Ah...Sluggy Freelance. One of my many, many, MANY addictions. For those who don't spend at least part of every day checking out the latest adventures, SLUGGY FREELANCE: IS IT NOT NIFTY? is the essential reading. Our heroes are Torg (blond, dumb, web-site designer) and Riff (blond, ponytail, trenchcoat, builds stuff). Our heroines are Zoe (brunette neighbor of Torg and Riff) and Gwynn (Zoe's best friend, wears huge eyeglasses). Then boy (Torg) buys cute fuzzy-wuzzy bunny (Bun-Bun)...things get interesting...be prepared to laugh, giggle and wanted to post photocopies of strips in your cubicle.

The first-ever Sluggy book! Introducing our cast of characters: Riff: an inventor and freelance bum who summons Satan on the Internet. Torg: a mild-mannered web designer. Bun-bun: Torg's pet rabbit, a cute talking mini-lop with a dark past. Zoe: innocent college student, neighbor, and straight-woman. Kiki: the friendly ferret who says, "Don't plan Torg's death! Stay good, Sam!" Including parodies of Star Trek, X-files, and a bonus story not found on the Internet: A Day in the Park with Bun-bun and Teddy Weddy.

...but it could have been made better simply by being longer. Small books tend to be easily lost, torn, mangled and such by persons like myself who amass large quantities of books on a regular basis.I'm a loyal Sluggy fan, and was glad to find the comics in book form... but I find myself wishing for something larger -- something that would fit well on a bookshelf and be nice enough to have colored Sundays. :) Overall... great buy. You will worship the niftiness!

"Nifty" is a leniency...,

I haven't read that many comics, but I can surely say it's the greatest and funniest comic strip I've ever read. Since I read the first page of the strip (a few weeks ago), I've been religiously reading it every day, and I always kept thinking "Oh my God! How do they come up with that stuff? They must've parodied every movie, comic, and person in existance, myself included!" Indeed, Pete must be a very talented guy to make up such twisted plots, such variety of humor, and to capture it all so well in the drawings. This is definitelly a must-have, not only for comic book collectors, but for any literate person with a sense of humor.

Without a doubt the best daily comic strip I have ever read. I was told by a close friend to check it out From that point on I was hooked. Over the next three nights I read the comic in it's entirity, spending hours downlowding every panel since it started. For a true fan or even an interested newcomer, this is a must have hardcopy. You can't call yourself a true sluggite without it!
