I'm not sure why there are bad reviews, my daughter has been begging me for this, and after she earned it, I happen to see Walmart selling it, and bought it for 14.99. We brought it home, and I jumped on the computer to see what everyone is saying about it, and I warned her that there were a lot of reviews that said it didn't work, so be prepared. She put the cubes in the freezer overnight, the next day she added cold juice...(we've always used a refrigerated beverage; pop, juice, lemonade) I then told her it would probably be better if she threw it back in the freezer for about ten minutes with the beverage inside. So that is what she did (and what she continues to do), we shook it up, and presto, its a slushy! She loves it, and so do I because we can use sugar free lemonade and just about anything. We shake it for about four to five minutes. I recommend putting it in the freezer again with the beverage inside for about ten minutes.

I don't know why there are so many bad reviews.
Ok, here's the story:
I decided to dig this out and make a slushy last night.
I washed everything and then threw the "Magic cubes" in the freezer overnight.
I woke up and did stuff and then I checked the freezer and the cubes were frozen. Slushy Time!
I stacked all the cubes in the cup, poured some O.J in, and shook it for about a minute.
I checked once, not slushy enough.
I shook for about 30 more seconds and checked again.
Yum!
Slushy all the way!

Bottom line:
Does it work like it should? yes
Do I recommend it? yes
Does it give you lots of slushy? no, when you take the cubes out, it doesn't make a lot, but is enough for me
Is it more slush than drink? Yes, but the drink and cubes have to be very cold.
Questions I have
why isn't this working for other people? Is it because I used O.J? is it because my drink was cold? I really don't know

Pros
Easy to clean
Works well
Tastes good

Cons
Quainty of slush ( There is enough slush, though it doesn't give you a big enough cup for enough slush drink)

I hope I helped. BTW you can buy this at bed bath and beyond (BBAB) for $4.99. Walmart too but for more money
I bought mine at bed bath and beyond (BBAB) for $14.99 because it had just came out. Price went down now

Great product!

I am so disappointed in this product. My only hope in writing this review is to warn other consumers what a waste and complete rip off slushy magic is. Slushy magic had a very kid friendly informercial, and my 4 year old daughter fell for it right away. I rarely buy things from TV informercials, so I told my daughter Santa would bring it to her for Christmas. That was six months ago and she held on tight to Santa bringing it down the fire place.I was hoping she'd forget about it but no avail. I went to the website, which is so poorly made, about 6 weeks before Christmas and when I went to purchase it I saw in very tiny words that It could take up to 2 months to have it delivered! But for and extra fee they could ship in in 7-10 business days. I was shocked to learn that the shipping and handling fee was almost as much as the product itself! That's where they get you. I couldn't believe I spent almost 40 bucks on two cups and two straws. As I take the ice cubs out of the box, there were six of them, 2 of them had holes in them and were leaking salt water everywhere. I had to throw them right in the trash. I freeze the remaining ones and on Christmas morning we make our first Slushy Magic and I notice one more ice cube had a hole in it. I was so irritated! I screw on the lid and it doesn't fit correctly and I dribble juice all over my counter even though my finger covered the little hole as I was directed to do. Here's the kicker, you have to shake the thing for 4-5 minutes to get it even close to a "slushy".

Don't buy it. Please don't waste your money. I don't have one nice thing to say about thus poorly made rip off.

You can't use room-temp liquids, you shouldn't use carbonated ones (if you want a Coke slush, just let it go flat), and it's not going to produce a slushy like the box shows. You won't open the lid to find a whole cup full and it won't be like the slushy from 7-11.

I shake it for a few minutes and get a half-slushy drink. Good enough I guess. If I stuck it all in the freezer for a few or shook longer then I would see better results but I'm impatient. The theory behind it works. As I remove each "magic cube" from my drink, I do so over the sink and then suck and schlurp each cube, since a lot of frozen good-ness is now frozen to the cube. And, the cubes are large, they take up a pretty good portion of the cup. So even if you go a little over the fill line, by the time the cubes come out you really only have half a cup full. Fine for kids, I guess, and prudent serving size if you want to prevent brain freeze.

It's not perfect. Lower your expectations, use common sense.

I was skeptical about this product but when tried it worked just like the directions said it would! I was so excited about it and my kids and coworkers think it is awesome as well! We currently own two and we are looking to buy extra ice cubes so we can make more than two per day!

We got the Slushy Magic yesterday. My 9 year old daughter was very excited to use it, so we went out and bought some lemonade to use. We put the cubes in our large upright freezer, which I think is colder than a regular freezer. We also put the lemonade in the freezer for 10 minutes as someone in other reviews suggested. But I don't think that was necessary.

We loaded up the 3 cubes and added the lemonade to the fill line. We used "Simply Lemonade", which is an all natural product, made with real sugar. We set the timer for 2 minutes. My daughter shook it for one minute and I shook it for the other minute. It did dribble a bit - which might have been the condensation from around the cup. (Hence the 4 star rating instead of 5). I shook it over the sink instead. But once it "slushified" the dribbling stopped. It only took the 2 minutes to become a real slushy - just like those at 7-11. My daughter ate it with a spoon.

We also used this cool slushy maker as a science lesson. The heat from the lemonade was transferred to the ice cubes, which in turn causes the lemonade to freeze. The ice cubes are salt water which have a lower melting point, so the cubes can still freeze the lemonade, even though they start to melt.

Remember that point about how we used a drink made with real sugar? I had a hypothesis that artificial sweeteners like high fructose corn syrup might have a lower freezing temperature. And sure enough, after a quick Google search I was able to confirm that.

So, my tip is to use only all-natural products to make the slushy.

Love this thing. It doesn't make a lot -- realistically, that would take way more freezing than would be possible from a small amount of ice, and it would be unfair to ask an inexpensive toy to violate the physical laws of the universe. The liquid needs to have at least a small amount of sugar to start the crystallization process. Now and again, I try something that doesn't have enough, and just end up with a really cold drink. Can't blame the cup for that either! It takes about 3 minutes of shaking (and, honestly, who couldn't use a little tricep toning?), and makes enough for a nice refresher after hiking or working out.

As an experiment, I tried putting the cup and cubes along with chilled juice, into small cooler, hoping for slush on the road after a hike. Didn't quite work (inefficient small cooler with "blue ice"), but it sure made for a much colder drink than I would have had otherwise. With a better cooler, it might actually slush.

One caveat -- I found that it's hard to shake it while keeping the air hole covered securely enough to avoid leaks, so I always use a paper towel over the air hole to soak up any stray leaks.

Buying a few more for family members.

I was doubtful when my cousin said he wanted this toy for his birthday, but it actually makes a slushy out of any liquid that will freeze. Takes a lot of shaking to get it to make a slushy. It also works perfectly as a shaker for making adult beverages. Shipped super fast too.
