Beautiful Message,
By
This review is from: Small Acts of Kindness (Paperback)
This is a beautiful book that is simply written and easy for any child 3 and up to understand. Kindness is something that can be instilled in their hearts and that they can act on as they grow. Very endearing.

Small Acts of Kindness,
By Kate Breen "LMK" (Boston) - See all my reviews

I loved this book and bought many copies to give out at Christmas. People loved it, and one of my co-workers told me his five year old daughter gives him a hug each morning, saying, "remember, this starts it off."

Good tale but odd illustrations,

I think the book does well to get across the meaning of how one small act of kindess can build to another person. It's also a good correlation to explain how being unkind to someone can also have a ripple effect. My only "complaint" is that the illustrations are black and white pencil type drawings and very odd to me. They certainly didn't add anything to the story. I love to read beautiful picture books to all my children but this one certainly misses the mark on adding beauty to the story.

I bought this book for my granddaughter after reading the reviews and am so glad I did. Kindness is a virtue that is needed now more than ever. Everyone should read this book, no matter what religion he or she espouses. The whole message of the book is about being sensitive to the needs of others. The fact that it was published by a Christian company, Paulist Press, speaks well for that company's morals.

Small Acts, Big Effects,
This review is from: Small Acts of Kindness (Paperback)
When my children first heard this story, they attempted to do all sorts of little things to help. Helping in little ways makes Mama happy, when Mama's happy, there's more care involved in making dinner and keeping house, when there's more care in housekeeping, Daddy's happy. And when Daddy's happy, the whole family is happy. The small acts in this book lead to the supreme act of kindness, God sending his Son to redeem the world.
The recent one-star review doesn't do this book justice. Just because the reviewer happens not to believe that Jesus is our Redeemer doesn't mean that the book is in any way bad. Jesus *was,* after all, born. That's an historical fact. And any birth is a miraculous act of kindness from God, don't you agree? This book is an excellent study on circle and cause and effect stories and on acting with love toward each other. All around, it's one of those stories that warms you to your toes when you read it. It warms those who hear it as well. It's well worth the price. We use it over and over again.

This book did NOT need to go there,

This review is from: Small Acts of Kindness (Paperback)
I bought this book during an Amazon sale. Actually, I bought 2 copies, one for home and one for daycare. Thought it is a really good lesson to teach about doing small acts of kindness. And the book seemed to live up to my expectations as I read it to my son for the first time. From the decoration of it, I thought it might be a biblical related story, likely something about the Golden Rule. Wonderful. Ummmm.... yeah... without any warning whatsoever, it ends with the little boy who was given some oil by a passing merchant as a small act of kindness, running toward the manger where Jesus was just born. Now was that really necessary? At least advertise the book for what it is. I'm jewish, would never have bought this book had I known. Very sneaky to not say a word. Now I have two copies of it that I am giving to my catholic friend tonight just to get them out of my house. I'd never have wasted the money on this book. I did get 18 more books on the same sale, quite a few of them for daycare, so they won't miss this book. Just a warning to be completely sure that you want a christian story when buying this book. You'd never know otherwise.
