Humor, Subtelty and Punches,
By A Customer
This review is from: Small Dreams of a Scorpion (Hardcover)
Poetry and grief go hand in hand. And some people have the knack of letting humor join the group. Spike Milligan is one of those poets who can make you laugh and cry, and at the same time. The poems are simple, no big words (often the reason why it is called a chilren book). But the themes are innocently brilliant. Why do we cut down hundred foot trees to make us dwarf? This is just one question Milligan asks. And you'll find a lot of them. For those who have loved his Goon books, his memoirs on the second world war - well you know what to expect. It'll take you half an hour to read this book, but you'll spend at least 5 more hours rereading it.
