Read the original!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Small One (Hardcover)
It's an okay book, but nothing close to the original. "The Small One" was actually written by Charles Tazewell, best known for "The Littlest Angel". Tazewell's version, which is heartbreakingly beautiful, is out of print. If you can lay your hands on a copy via your local library or a used book store, do!

Great,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Small One (Board book)
This is one of my favorite children's books. It is about a little boy who loves his donkey, Small One, but the donkey is old and weak. The boy's father cannot afford the donkey anymore. The boy goes into town to sell Small One. Small One is willing to sacrifice his life for the boy, but the boy will not allow it.This is a cute and inspiring tale of friendship. I would definitely recommend this book to people. This book teaches us a lesson. There is no greater love than to lay down your life for a friend. The ending of the story is great. You won't be disappointed!

Disney's Best,
By Siren "Siren" (Palm Coast, FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Small One (Hardcover)
Out of all the animated features and live-action movies from Disney, this would be my favorite. Both the book and the 25min. movie have an excellent story and beautiful artwork. I am 19 years old and still enjoy this wonderful story about humanity, devotion and love. Small One is a true friend and a classic story.

Must Have For Book Collection,

This review is from: The Small One (Hardcover)
This might possibly be my favorite children's book, that also has meaning for ALL ages. I checked this book out at my church library and knew I had to have it for my home collection for my grandchildren. My 5 year-old grand-daughter loved it. I read it to my 5th and 6th grade Sunday School class and they enjoyed it as well. As I said ALL agess will love this book. It teaches that all of us are important. Even the weak serve a purpose in God's plans. Also teaches selflessness. The little donkey is willing to lay down his life if need be. The book has an unexpected ending that I love. Everytime I read it I feel inspired!!! We all need to learn to look past each other's short-comings and see the value of each and every life. And we all have a purpose on this earth, whether great or small, to make an impact on someone else's life.....You will not be disappointed if you buy this book... k... . .

A Sweet Story,
This review is from: The Small One (Hardcover)
I didn't even know this short film was made into a book! For me, I remember watching this film when I was a little girl. This book brings back fond memories of watching this on the Disney Channel around Christmas time. It's a sweet story with a beautiful ending about a humble little donkey who has a very special job to do. Disney would never create a film like this with a Christian focus in today's age, so, in my opinion, this is a rare find.

When I bought this copy of The Small One, it stated it was New. Not Like new, and not excellent shape used. But when I went to write my niece's name in the cover, I found that "Grandma" had already wished "Her Little Caroline" a Merry Christmas back in 2000.
Luckily I thought to cover the inscription with a Christmas label and go from there...but I was still unhappy about paying $30 for a book that was 10 years old, printed $12.95 on the cover, and previously used.

A Good Story.,

Granted this book maybe nothing like the original story. However, it does contain the heart of the original story. The message of love, sacrifice, hope, and how God has a plan for everyone comes through clear. True, most of the language is simple, but that's to be expected of a book based on a Disney film based off a classical work. Though this may not be as powerful as the original, it contains the essence of the story and for that, it's a book worth reading.
