NO SMALL ALBUM,
By A Customer
This review is from: Small Talk (Audio CD)
This album is great. No words can describe Amazing Grace. Buying the album will be well worth your money.Actually, this is not Essik's first album. Being from Birmingham I have had the opportunity to see him many times. He has quite a few albums out and they are all wonderful. Each year he plays at City Stages, a music festival in Birmingham that encompasses over 250 acts in one weekend.

I recently discovered the wonderful world of Jazz. After hearing Essix live, I wanted to check out his library of music. "Small Talk" is fast becoming a favorite. I love the melodic, haunting sound of "By My Side" and "No Matter What" are wonderful vocals on this CD. The entire CD is well worth your money spent. This CD is up there with my other favorite CD by Essix: 'Somewhere in Alabama'. Loved, loved, loved this CD!

Haven't heard this one, but I own all of his other CDs and I love them all. Yes, we do have some great musicians in the state of Alabama and Eric is at the top. Check out all of his work, and if you're ever in B'ham' go see him live you won't regret it!

Very nice music and pleasing mood. I listen to it as background music while I work or when my mind needs a rest. The guitar is very clean and melodic. There's little fingers aerobic and contains lines you can hum to. The vocal and saxophone adds a nice touch and variety to this CD. If you like George Benson you should like this one.

I bought Small Talk after seeing Eric perform live and must say this is a great CD. Eric's Guitar playing is first class and the songs are just wonderfully done. It's one of those CD's that is played often.

Fresh, but familiar in a hauntingly beautiful way,

From the first moment of my first listen to "Small Talk," I couldn't help feeling that the music was both new and familiar at the same time. Many months later, I can still summarize it no better. This is an album with a diversity of sounds. At moments, I hear what sounds like Steve Laury influence; at other moments, I am reminded of Art Porter; and at still others, I feel I must be hearing pure Eric Essix. One track that makes me feel this way is "Smiles." There is something very special about that tune. Sometimes feeling flows from music, and sometimes music flows from feeling. "Smiles" seems like a case of the latter. I don't know how to distill my reactions any further. This release is VERY worth acquiring.

I heard this song on the radio called "For Real" The guitar sounds he played on this track are excellent. The background voices are also great as well. I play this song for my newborn baby and he enjoys it.

This guy is a rising star. I recently had the chance to see him live in his hometown, Birmingham , AL and he was terrific. The album is smooth and engrossing, leaving nothing to the imagination. He also has a new release out on Capital Records. Check it out, its a jazz lover's dream.
