"Inspiring and impassioned. This film is easy to love." ----Adirondack Daily Enterprise

Product Description

As the world celebrates the Sochi Games, Small Town, Big Dreams: Lake Placid's Olympic Story tells the story of one village's Olympian quest -- how a tiny town in the heart of New York's Adirondack Mountains held the world's premier winter sports event not just once, but twice, and gave the nation the greatest moment in American sports.

In 1932 Lake Placid hosted the Third Winter Olympics in the midst of the Great Depression, and over the next five decades this town of less than 3,000 people fought to bring the Games back. They succeeded with the 1980 Winter Olympics, where Eric Heiden won a record five gold medals on the speed skating oval outside the local high school, and an upstart team of young U.S. hockey players shocked the Soviet powerhouse and went on to win gold in the Miracle On Ice.

Featuring restored footage and rare audio recordings, Small Town, Big Dreams tells how residents of one tiny village helped make dreams come true, and turned Lake Placid into a winter sports capital -- where the spirit of the Olympics lives on, every day.

NOTE: Disc contains one-hour program broadcast on PBS, plus original uncut version entitled Lake Placid: An Olympic History in addition to bonus teaser and trailer material.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Masterpiece from Marc Nathanson February 2, 2010
What a wonderful documentary. It is greatly detailed with wonderful footage and photographs. If you don't know much about Lake Placid or why so many people love this little town, you will after watching this production. It was very well done and I don't think you'll find any other good source about Lake Placid. You get the feeling that you were right there while these events were happening. The Rev. Bernie Fell sums it up best."How does a little like this command so much attention, why are you so different from every other small snowbell town. It is people who dream dreams. People whos interest lie not in personal fame and glory, but in building better things for yet a better time.

Excellent footage, both historical and for 1980. What a great story about such a great town. And it was narrated well.
