A Superior Album,
By
This review is from: Small World Big Band (Audio CD)
This is a wonderful mix of Rhythm & Blues songs by top artists and musicians, with a couple of odd (but good ones) thrown in. George Harrison's "Horse To The Water" is a great one and a wonderful final song for him (recorded aprox. two months before his death). The John Lennon and Bob Dylan influence is obvious, but it is definitely George's! Eric Clapton is also great with "What Would I Do Without You." The piano and guitar work on the album stands out as superior! I would recommend this CD to anyone with an appreciation for good, solid Rhythm & Blues music! Get it while it lasts & sit back and listen!

Nice rhythm and blues.,

With some brilliant songs by guest musicians George Harrison, Sam Brown, Stereophonics, Eric Bibb, Chris Difford, Mick Hucknall, Taj Mahal and Eric Clapton. As it says in the sleeve notes: 'For optimum results play as loudly as possible in comfortable environments.'Just don't annoy the guests and neighbours.

George Harrison ROCKS!,
By
This review is from: Small World Big Band (Audio CD)
This album includes a track by the late George Harrison and it makes this CD worth the price alone. "Horse to the Water" was recorded by George on Ooctober 2nd 2001...just weeks before his tragic death. It's a great George song in the spirit of his work on his excellent "Cloud Nine" album. A wonderful gift. And his last recording in release.

An original mix!,

OK, this is an odd mix! but some of the tracks are great! It has everything from the blues to Ska! However, the track which will gain most attention is George Harrison's. Harrison's voice sounds in faltering shape! The Eric Clapton is a good track, and there are many gems in this album!

I just came here to see whether Jools Holland is known of in the States and what CDs were on sale
Really the way in to appreciate the music is to have listened to 30s and 40s big band and boogie,50s rock n roll and country and plenty of Ska and psychedelia. In fact everything people have done though for me that discludes heavy metal, prog and rap. Holland began as the pianist in the 80s band Squeeze but by the time thet hit in the States he'd left and was first of all a session musician and co presenter of The Tube He was seen in the States after the TV film about New Orleans was made where he was seen playing with Fats Domino. This is where it all began as Holland seems to have done away with decades of musical snobbery.Everything on the CDs made with various guests fits and shows that music is music whatever

Small World Big Band,
This review is from: Small World Big Band (Audio CD)
`Small World, Big Band' is a collection of tracks from Jools Holland and some well known friends.
The selection of tracks here are in his typical boogie woogie, blues or soul style and the friends he duets with are varied and eclectic. From Sting to George Harrison, Mica Paris and David Gilmour to Eric Clapton, each person he duets with adds their own unique feel to the song they feature on. Personal favourites have to be `Nobody But You' with Ruby Turner with it's soul blues feel and `Mademoiselle Will Decide' with Mark Knopfler, but to be honest all the songs are good and sit very comfortably alongside one another. If you like Jools' music then this should be right up your street and if you like blues in general then there should plenty here for you to enjoy. Give it a try, you shouldn't be disappointed. Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.

This is an interesting last statement for Harrison--he's a bit angry and rocking. The song basically sounds like a Cloud Nine-era Harrison track (a great one), but the rest of the disc does nothing for me. A bunch of swing [junk]. Even some of my favorite artists (Joe Strummer, Van Morrison) are not at their best here.
