This really is an excellent toy -- my 3yo boy loves them. He can practice cutting them, making "soup", and then when we serve those vegetables he's a little more interested in them. These are a bit pricey, but make a great gift, and keep him busy and happy for hours every week. I was surprised how durable the velcro is -- he can pull them apart over and over without damaging the velcro in any way. A really well designed, fun, and educational toy.

I wasn't too excited about these when I saw them in the box, but my daughter (just under 2 years) really enjoys playing with these. I imagine she'll like them when she's older too as she can't put all of them back together yet. They vary in how they go back together--some are just a basic "cut" in half, others have leaves on them and then smaller parts, and the pineapple (that would be in the fruit set, we have that too) even has a "core."

We have the wooden Melissa and Doug set. They are much better than these and cheaper. For example, look at the carrot. You can only cut it one time. In our wooden set the carrot is four or five pieces. Also, several of the peels and "throw away" parts of the vegetables are held on by tiny pieces of flimsy velcro. The husk of the corn and the leafy part of the cauliflower barely stay on after a few months of play. We originally thought that some of the peels and things might make this a neat set, but now it seems like those are the things that we don't like. This feels like a cheap plastic set.

We own this set and the better Melissa and Doug 31 Piece Cutting Food Box. If I were you I would go with the more durable and more fun to cut wood set.

This is a great product, my 2 year old daughter loves it. I was making sausage and peppers, and while i was cutting the peppers, my daughter took out her veggies and was pretending to cut them just like mommy!

We received a toy as a present for our daughter. The velcro peeled off the toys within a month and I tried to contact customer service for two weeks. When I called a different department I spoke to a woman who was very rude, told me to contact gift giver for receipt and take item back to store. When I asked if I could speak to another representative as it would be very awkward to ask a gift giver for receipt she laughed and hung up. I called back to ask her name and she hung up again. This was at 12:30pm on 11/22/2013. The gift seems dangerous as it is for a small child and the peeling velcro could be a choking hazard. Customer service was just awful, and left worse impression than poor product quality.

My son loved cutting the Melissa & Doug food when visiting friends. But when I was shopping, this set had a lot more to offer for much less money. I am very happy with my decision. First it is plastic, so they can be cleaned easier after being in their mouth all the time. The velcro is very sturdy on most pieces (unlike some brands I've seen). The corn and cauliflower don't have enough velcro to stay together, but I love the rest. The plastic is also very firm (unlike some cheap flimsy plastic sets I've seen). I've actually had people want to know where I got this set when they saw it becuase they liked it better than the wooden sets.

My little girl will be 2 this month, and I'm already convinced that she is destined down the path of culinary greatness! She loves kitchen toys and faux food, and she L-O-V-E-S this set of veggies! She plays with them all day, pulling and cutting them apart, "cooking" with them, you name it. I initially was going to buy the wooden Melissa and Doug version, but after seeing these at her preschool, I feel that these are more durable and the velcro lasts longer. The wooden fruits and veggies are too heavy to be held together by velcro. Simply a great toy!

We got this set along with a play kitchen for my two year old for her birthday. I got it after I read the reviews and I am glad to say I am so pleased with the set. They are plastic, but I didn't want wooden food (potential for throwing and thus, dents and others getting hurt). The plastic is fine. The food is lightweight, but so far they have bounced up and down on our tile floor and still look good as new. The Velcro is firmly attached and I don't see it coming off anytime soon. The size of the food is perfect for little hands. They are not "life size," but not teeny either. They fit in our play kitchen perfectly. My daughter loves taking them apart. Sometimes she uses the knife, but sometimes just her hands. I like that this toy is more than just food; it is a matching toy as my daughter has to find the correct pieces to put back together. The toy also has a child use muscles in their hands that are used for pulling apart and cutting with a knife.

Specifics on some of the food: Most of the pieces cut in half (the onion in three pieces). The pea is a pod that shells with peas inside that come out. Someone mentioned this as a choking hazard. My daughter doesn't put them in her mouth, but at two years old, I also do not think she could swallow them as they are all together one piece. The corn, cauliflower (also cuts in half) and lettuce have leaves that can be pulled off.

The only possible con is that the leaves on the corn and cauliflower seem a bit loose because they are held on by little bits of Velcro. However, they do stay on and my daughter loves peeling the leaves off.

Finally, another reason I chose this set is that it is veggies! I wanted my daughter to have play food that encouraged healthy choices.
