5.0 out of 5 stars Neurosmith Music Blocks toy is A++++
We've had this toy for around 3 years now. My second child loves playing with it as much as my firstborn! It is also a hit with other children visiting our house. The toy is as educational as it is fun! We've used it to practice colors, shapes, and musical creativity. It can get a little pricey as the cartridges to expand the set run ~$20 new. All in all a FANTASTIC...

There is a switch that lets you change between three music styles. Amazon still hasn't caught on to this and is featuring a cartridge with the machine in it's "better together" promo. If you want a machine that accepts cartridges you will have to buy an old one off of EBAY. That's what I did after I bought a bunch of cartridges and then bought the new machine and found out they wouldn't work in it.

All in all a FANTASTIC toy well worth the price! Another upside is how friendly and helpful the Neurosmith company is. We lost a block and they were friendly and helpful with the replacement.

My friend finally broke down and bought this for her 2 kids because they also loved it so much!

4.0 out of 5 stars Has been a favorite toy for a long time!, February 12, 2006
This review is from: Music Blocks (Baby Product)
My daughter received this on her first birthday and still plays with it two years later! We've been able to use it for naming colors, matching shapes, and putting together different musical compositions. The cartridge with African beats/Irish jig is a lot of fun.

We haven't had any trouble with dropping this toy and it not playing (and it's been dropped/thrown/kicked....loved?). My only complaint is the price! (the reason for 4 stars)

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best electronic toy for toddlers., April 4, 2008
This review is from: Music Blocks (Baby Product)
This item is the best electronic toy ever made for toddlers. It combines a sophisticated response with simple physicality (the child handles the block s and puts them down freely on the footprints) to make a delightful experience.

With three children in our household, we've seen our share of good and back educational toys. This one is one of the best, particularly for households that want to promote musical affinity. It provides endless combinations of choices depending on where the child places the cube. It also gives three different "styles" of music: jazzy, classical and funk. The only reservation I have is that it may be a little to difficult for babies less than 1 year old.

1.0 out of 5 stars Arrived Broken, August 25, 2008

My real complaint is with the company who will not answer my emails in a timely fashion. This was a gift which arrived broken and after a month, I am still not seeing a credit on my charge card, nor am I getting a response from the company. If the toy is this flimsy, don't bother.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Toy & Worth the Twice but Did Break Twice, December 13, 2011

I bought the music blocks 4 years ago, and when the toy arrived, it wasn't working consistently. Luckily, my husband is good with electronics, and he took the toy apart, repaired it, and the toy worked again. Still, it was a hassle. We played with it a little the first year but more and more in subsequent two years until the toy broke (permanently this time). Here are a few points to pass on:
* The toy has a lot of fine wires inside, and therefore the toy is temperamental. It broke twice for us.
* There are additional cartridges, but you can play with the toy without buying extra cartridges.
* We had 4 cartridges, but we liked the jazz cartridge the best--great instruments (you have to buy it separately).
* The toy worked well for a 3-year-old and was great for a 4-year-old.
* The blocks don't play the same songs over and over, which I loved.
* The best toy ever for playing musical chairs (since the toy doesn't play the same song/instruments every time).

Overall, I'd recommend the toy...with the caveat that the toy will likely not last. It was probably worth the money, although I would have bought only the jazz cartridge. The quality of the toy was a problem, though, and I have not bought another one for my younger child.

My only complaint was the box the actual item came in (not the exterior box) was in bad shape - extra tape stuck on, and slightly crushed. This was purchased for a gift, so it was particularly annoying.

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointed, October 21, 2005

I received this toy as a gift for my one year old daughter. I thought it was a wonderful toy, and so did my daughter. After playing a while with it on the floor, my daughter picked it up and started walking around the kitchen with it in her hands, and fell down, and the toy dropped on the floor. At this point the toy started to malfunction. The music would play sometimes and not others. And after being dropped to the floor a couple more times, it stopped working altogether. I think a toy designed for young children should be more durable than this toy turned out to be. Great toy ... but it didn't last long.
