4.0 out of 5 stars works for DSLR audio
Using to hold and position Zoom H2n/H4n audio recorder on DSLR camera for audio recording/input. Works pretty well, seems solid. The screw mount that connects hotshoe to the swivel was loose, needed to tighten down, but after that works well. Can position recorder in horizontal position with minimal height. Looks and works particularly well with H2n atop camera.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sort of works
Is it a ball head? Yes. Does it fit a Canon hot shoe? Yes (but there is some wiggle room with the foot). Does the ball head move freely? Yes. Can it hold a Canon 430EX II Flash? Sort of. This ballhead has trouble keeping the flash positioned where I like (same with some slightly lighter items), and is prone to unscrewing itself. The included Allen wrench is also several...

This ballhead has trouble keeping the flash positioned where I like (same with some slightly lighter items), and is prone to unscrewing itself. The included Allen wrench is also several sizes larger than the only Allen screw on the ballhead, so I'm not sure why it's even included. It was worth a shot for $6, and it will function, but it's about what you should expect from an item at this price point.

This unit is very light duty, so don't plan to put a heavy flash on it. I use mine for a small auxiliary flash for a macro lens setup and it works fine.

It's fairly weak. Not strong enough to mount my Tascam DR100 mII to my rig. It works for smaller/lighter things, though, like a Zoom H1.

3.0 out of 5 stars Buy another model/brand., January 3, 2015
This review is from: Smallrig LCD Monitor Adapter 1/4" Camera Hot Shoe Mount w/ Additional 1/4" Screw for Cameras Such As Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, Panasonnic, Fujifilm & Kodak. (Camera)
This is a very good product for what I bought it to do, which was to mount an LCD monitor. It was loose and wobbly until I tightened it, which required an Allen key of a different size than the one included. The included key actually does not seem to fit any part of the product. I also am continually having to re-tighten the hotshoe's connection to the main body of the device each time I remove it from my camera, otherwise when I put it back on it will wobble again. Who knows how long until it will no longer tighten?

I bought this item to use it to place a tablet on a nikon d5100 and have a much larger than the camera screen. The piece is fully compliant with this feature, you can place the tablet in the desired position and lock it in that position and the piece will keep that position despite sudden movements. The only detail I've found so far is that the base that fits into the camera's hot shoe is plastic and seems flimsy, probably I'll replace it by one of metal.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is Cheap and Inexpensive, But Works Pretty Well, March 5, 2013

I'm generally wary of any product that comes with a spare parts and tools, but for the price this has worked out pretty well. As the other reviewer said, it's not perfect, but if you're looking to hold something onto a cage (mine is holding a Zoom H4N), it works really well. I bought a few of them as spares for emergencies, but have found the first one holds up pretty well. I'd actually put this somewhere around the 4.25 stars because of the price, because, at least for me, it proved to be a very good value.
