4.0 out of 5 stars Recipient enjoyed very much, January 10, 2010

This review is from: Smart Baseball Umpiring (Paperback)
This was a stocking stuffer for my 15 yr old son who started umpiring last year for our local basbball league. As a new umpire & one still learning all the time, he found the book helpful and interesting. It has prompted a LOT of discussion in our house between the 15 yr old umpire & the Dad Coach...haha Let's just say they may not be done proving or disproving some of the comments but they are enjoying themselves reading it. It is definately a conversation starter and not a shelf sitter that's for sure.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners; Not for Patched Officials, July 26, 2005
This review is from: Smart Baseball Umpiring (Paperback)
I hoped that this book would provide more insight for patched officials who want to improve their skills. The book gave some good advice, but was mainly an introductory review of mechanics which are covered by the NFHS manuals.

I DO recommend this book for teenage and non-patched umpires who want to improve their skills without going through cryptic and boring NFHS mechanics and rules books.

Does not display the depth or completeness of a Childress book, but certainly entertaining enough for little league umpires.
