This book is a must read!,
By
This review is from: Smart Mouth (Paperback)
When FBI agent Derek Knight realizes that his informant left evidence for Derek in the wrong rental car and a very sexy woman is about to drive away with the evidence, he tries to get it back but instead he ends up scaring her away. Journalist Reese Hampton thinks it's too bad that this hot hunk of a man who approaches her turns out to be some kind of creepy stalker and she takes off in the car as fast as possible. When they finally meet up again and things are explained, Reese decides that she should work with Derek to help him bring down the drug manufacturing company that is fixing prices and in return she gets first dibs on the news story that could turn her career around. And it doesn't hurt that they both have the hots for each other. What could be wrong with indulging in a little fling while working on the case? Both Derek and Reese were lovable, interesting characters. If you read this book, be ready for laugh out loud scenes, witty dialogue, sizzling chemistry and steamy love scenes! The suspense was very well written and well plotted. I couldn't put this book down! This book a sexy, fun-filled ride from start to finish! Erin McCarthy is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. SMART MOUTH is a not to be missed book! If you haven't read anything by Erin McCarthy yet, pick this one up and see for yourself what a great author she is. I know you'll want to pick up the rest of her books!

Another Winner By Ms. McCarthy!!!,
By
This review is from: Smart Mouth (Paperback)
Ms. McCarthy is now an automatic buy for me. Her latest novel managed to combine, wit, humor, suspense, drama, and of course steamy romantic feelings between Reese and Derek or heroine and hero. These are not perfect characters and I think this was one of the reason's why I liked them so much. Reese is a "little spoiled aspiring for a real by-line reporter", and Derek is a " I better not screw this one up or else my brilliant FBI agent career is memorex" kind of guy. Despite these flaws these two characters really shine and their chemistry and growing relationship is HOT!!! Basically you have a mix up when an informate to a big case that Derek has been working on for a long time leaves his information in the wrong car. The car just so happens to be the rental car that Reese has contracted out for her stay in the windy city while she covers a society wedding. Could her life be more boring? Not for long, before either one of them knows it they have both found what they haven't been looking for and nothing will be the same. This was a fun, fast paced read that as stated earlier combines great characterization, fun plotting, and great chemistry between the two main characters. This read is quite sensual but not over done, and certainly not used as page filler. Plenty of laugh out loud moments as well as some great secondary characters that I feel may just call out for their own story. Ms. McCarthy is now an author I will purchase simply because her name is on the cover. Who said you can't judge a book by it's cover?

I loved this book by Erin McCarthy. It was fast moving and really kept my interest. I couldn't put it down until I finished it. Reese Hampton is a journalist and accidently finds evidence that FBI agent Derek Knight needs for a case and he wants it back. She knows she's onto a story and she isn't giving it up. The chemistry between these two are wonderful to watch unfold. This is an automatic keeper on my bookshelf. I have never been disappointed by anything Erin McCarthy writes. Another wonderful book.

Pretty good book but....,

This review is from: Smart Mouth (Paperback)
I would have to say it needed more work. I did enjoy this book. It was funny and the plot was OK, the sex was hot and plentiful, I really did not like our heronie Reese. She was not stupid, but most of the time, she came off as not too smart. Why she kept on asking Derek questions that he could not answer is beyond me. It got really annoying that Reese is so smart, but yet cant figure out why Derek wont tell her confidental information from the FBI. I have no problem with a heroine that has an attitude. Most of the time, a spunky heroine who does not take crap from anyone is a great element of a book. Unfortuneatly Reese just comes across as a bitch. Sorry to say. Its alot of "Me this and me that." Or it goes this way or no way. I mean come on, if someone pick up FBI evidence, who in their right mind is going to keep it for a story when you could go to jail? Then there is Derek who as a man and hero is a good one but for and FBI agent is a wash out. Kind of kills some of the story that our big bad FBI agent kinda really sucks.
The plot was interesting. I thought it could have been worked with more and gotten more out of it. The most suspenceful thing was weather or not Markson was going to go through with what he was suppose to do. So, this is a pretty good book. If it had more work and more likeable characters, it would be even better. I think that Erin McCarthy is a name to keep your eye open for. While this book is not the best, it is really entertaining. I did not want to put it down. Just because I do not like some of the elements does not make it a bad book. But beware, this book has A LOT of sex. So if you dont like that in a book, this is not for you. Its really hot sex though. I am going to look for other books by the author, Im sure the stories will get better over time, but dont let that discourage you from trying this book too.

Perfect Match!,
By Dr. Edward Dow (Pewaukee, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Smart Mouth (Paperback)
Serious Journalist wannabe Reese Hampton and FBI agent Derek Knight are a sizzling couple in the making. This is my first Erin McCarthy book. I was very impressed with her witty dialogue, steamy encounters and the emotional weight between the characters.
Both Reese and Knight come with some baggage. Reese was raised without a mother (who died when she was very young) by her father and four older brothers. She is looking to take control of her previously male dominated life and to be taken seriously in her journalistic pursuits. She portrays herself as not looking for a commitment. Knight is ten years older (age 36), divorced, does not get along well with his boss and is leading a lonely life while trying to hold his career together. Reese brings laughter (and great sex) to his life, but at the same time poses a challenge and threat to his current FBI investigation of price fixing among pharmaceutical companies. Their romance is heartfelt and passionate in between their sassy repartee!

This is a keeper,

This review is from: Smart Mouth (Paperback)
Smart Mouth by Erin McCarthy is a hysterically funny (...)read.All Derek Knight, FBI agent wants is the evidence his informant left for him in a rental car. He realizes that the car he is searching is the wrong one. The car he should be searching is being driven away by the best set of legs on woman. Reese Hampton, reporter for a rag magazine is in town to cover a wedding. She has this hunky man chasing her for this envelope she found in her rental car. Derek follows Reese to her hotel room to bargain for the evidence. He realizes the wants more from Reese then the evidence she is holding as a bargaining chip. Reese thinks if she can get Derek to agree to work together on this case they can get to know each other more intimately and she will get the story to make her career. From their first meeting Derek and Reese?s chemistry is off the charts. Their verbal exchanges are fast pace, so funny that you can only laugh out loud and keep a permanent smile on your face. They work well as a team in business and out. Erin McCarthy is a fresh face in the writing field. She is an auto buy for me.

A great way to spend a few hours!,

Reese Hampton is a reporter, and she?s tired of always being assigned to the fluffy ?human interest? stories. She wants to be a real reporter for a real newspaper, not the dinky little paper she works for now. Her latest assignment is to cover some boring society wedding. Yawn. But things get interesting when some crazy man starts shouting something about an envelope in her rental car and then chases her. When she discovers that Derek Knight is actually an FBI agent and the envelope is from an informant, she can?t help herself. She has to see what?s in there! Once she gets a glimpse of the contents, Reese is sure she?s found the story that will take her career to new levels. How can she convince Derek that they need to work together? And maybe mix business with pleasure, too? From page one, there is great chemistry between Derek and Reese. I love the way Reese says whatever is on her mind. SMART MOUTH has it all ? it?s sexy and funny, with an appealing group of characters. Erin McCarthy has written a full-length novel with all the wit and steam of her novellas!

Her style of writing is engaging and witty and I fell in love with Reese and Derek as they stumbled along trying not to fall in love. Smart Mouth was laugh out loud funny and the love scenes steamy..don't read this book without something cool to drink! This book was very hard to put down and definitely one I will enjoy reading again. Hurry up with the next one Erin!

Pretty Good Contemporary Romance,
By Misuzmama (New York, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Smart Mouth (Paperback)
I like McCarthy's books, so maybe I'm a little biased. She writes well and the loves scenes are fabulous. This is not earth-shattering stuff and no brain required. The plots are usually a bit thin, but the characters are likeable and the story flows well. If your looking for a deep and emotional read, try McNaught instead. You won't cry or be cursing the characters in a McCarthy book, just some good romantic fluff.
Its basically about an FBI agent, Derek Knight, who loses crucial evidence in a federal drug price fixing case to low time reporter Reese Hampton. Reese knows a good story when she sees one and won't let studly Derek out of her sight until she gets the full exclusive that'll lead to a career break. Derek can't mess up on this mission, his career is at stake too. The too butt heads and warm the sheets as they search for more evidence. A great romance between two A-type personalities. If you liked any of McCarthy's anthologies or her other books, you'll like this one too. Mouth to Mouth is good too. Note: Derek's sister, Clair is featured in The Night Before Christmas anthology -recommended and Derek's FBI partners Maddock and CJ have their own story in Bad Boys in Black Tie anotholgy -Highy Recommmended.
