A reliable electronic coffee mug.
Finally! It has taken several years and at least 7 failures, but I think I have finally found a reliable electronic coffee mug. The most significant advance is that the manufacturers have come up with a way to clean them. This has been the bane of travel mug fans everwhere...You can not wash them effectively. Here is the common mode of failure. "wash by hand" the instruction say....but don't you dare get the outside of the mug (with all the exposed electronic controls) wet. I have killed at least three mugs this way. I tried to wash them by hand but every once in a while, some soapy water splashes over the side and the next time it gets plugged in....nothing. Dead. Kaput. Road kill. No Va. In this newest incarnation, the inside of the mug unscrews so you can wash it separately....hardly rocket science, but it works! I have not tried washing the insert in a dishwasher yet...but it washing it by hand works well. So far....the handle has not snapped off (three mugs died that way), but also have not "quarter bounced" it yet either. The mug's center of balance is still a little too high for most car's drink holders, but is Ok for my Toyota Sienna. The only thing I would like to see different is the lid. I would like to see a sliding component to seal the against leaks when tipped (like trying to open your car door with a travel mug in your hand). When everything is taken into account, this one is a keeper...enjoy! Sons of Series

Bad Design- Since this is the first mug where you need to unscrew the innerpart to clean, no on else in the house knows to do this. Therefore the outer part can get wet and ruin the mug. The top does not close so you spill coffee all over coat and briefcase when going to car. The mug is too complicated- it is hard to set the correct temperature. Even when the display said it was on the highest temperature, I would drive 25 minutes to work and the coffee was only luke-warm. Each time you turn car off and then on again , you need to reset the temp- pain in the neck. KEEP IT SIMPLE!

I received the mugs in a very short time after placing the order. They are excellent. I like the fact you can set the temperature to your liking. I Have other cups that have a fixed temp. The only faults I find w/the Smart Mug is they are a bit "top heavy" when used w/o a cup holder in a vehicle, for which they are designed. I use mine, mostly, at the computer, powered by a power converter. I also think the handle is awkwardly, for me anyway, shaped. I would prefer it to be more round.
