This very clever lunch box is made from BPA-free, food grade silicone and biodegradable Eco Plastic. It is made to hold anything from a sandwich to last night's leftovers and even soup. Now it's easy to "go green" by using this reusable waste-free lunch system. Simply compress it to 1/3 of the size so that it is easy to carry and store when you are done. As an added bonus, this set comes complete with its own innovative two sided spork that snaps into the lid.

I love the way it collapses to save lots of space.

They are very durable, very easy to clean, the compartments are an ample size, and it collapses when you're done.

Been using two of these (green and orange) for school lunches for about 3 months now. I do like it because it saves plastic baggies and wrap, but it has serious flaws. First, its quite a bit larger than dimensions say, more like 7 3/4" x 10 1/4" x 3. I think it was measured compressed and without the snap-on lid. It does not fit in my kids' lunchboxes. Since they don't fit in the lunch boxes, there's no way to keep them insulated. They just stick them in their backpacks, but then they tend to get squished. I don't have a dishwasher so these have always been gently hand washed. There is a silicone seal under the lid that never kept wet food from leaking, so we stopped packing applesauce real early on. The seal also falls out easily, one of ours is already lost at school. My son never even noticed he'd lost it since it's so thin and colorless it is practically invisible. Since we learned to only pack non-leaky stuff anyway, it doesn't matter. Also, makes the spoon/fork obsolete. The "dip" well on the top is useless. It's impossible for kids to open without squishing out the contents. It should be threaded. So no more carrots and ranch either. the routine has become: a sandwich, halved and stacked with a juice pouch tucked in next to it. (The juice pouch helps keep the sandwich from getting crushed. Some fruit (not wet, not too squishy) like dried apricots, sliced apples or orange sections. And a couple of cookies or maybe pretzels or chips. Not leaky, not too crushable, and relatively healthy.
Honestly, I'd rather be putting separate containers in a regular insulated lunch box with a reusable bottle, but these cost a lot and kids think they're cool so I'll keep using them.

I wish I could give 3.5 stars b/c 3 doesn't seem high enough, but it's not quite a 4.

Anyway, I love the overall concept of this product. It's so much simpler than having all different containers and lids to match up. It collapses to save space when stored in the cabinet. The # and size of the compartments is just right, and they're pretty deep to accommodate different shapes of foods. Sometimes I'll set one other item on top of it, like a banana or a yogurt tube, but mostly everything fits inside. Also, I love that the lid snaps on, so it stays put and is pretty easy for my kids to not only open, but also close it successfully (so that remnants from lunch don't spill all over the lunchbox).

However there are a few things I consider flaws...

For one thing, the lid doesn't create an airtight seal on the individual compartments. So, liquids or things like yogurt can leak from one compartment to the other (for example my kid was not happy when his burrito ended up "marinated" in the juice from his mandarin oranges, lol). Although liquids don't seem to leak to the outside of the whole lunch box, so the outer seal on the lid seems to be fine.

Also, the spork is such an awesome idea, but the plastic it's made of is pretty flimsy and the small lid that holds the spork in its compartment doesn't snap on very securely. It's loose and falls off easily. The size of the spork compartment is also not big enough to accommodate any of the other small forks we own. I'm sure we'll eventually lose the spork and/or its compartment lid.

So, not perfect, but overall this was a good buy and I think we'll use it for a long time.

The other thing I wish is that I could find something just like this but that is stainless steel.

Great idea. Poor execution.

From the start, the fork on the lid NEVER stayed put. This should not have been acceptable, but I just lived with this flaw and did not use the fork at all since I have utensils at work.

Now, after using this to bring lunch only approx 4-5 times, the snappy thing on one side that holds the lid on has ceased to work well. Basically, the lid came off in my bag on the way to work. To be clear, nothing is broken, per se. It has just... worn out? Bad design? I don't really know, but it is basically useless to me now - which is WAY worse than if I had bought a nearly indestructable plastic rubbermaid or tupperware. This is DEFINITELY not acceptable.

As a side note, if you still want to try one for yourself, I would seriously consider choosing the single/small one - whatever it is called. You'd be surprised at how little you actually need a TV dinner type tray.

****UPDATE****
I sent a similar email to the manufacturer, Smart Planet, on the same day I originally wrote this review. I wrote to them, instead of Amazon, because it is an inherent flaw in manufacturing. Also, the return period is up and it's not really Amazon's fault anyway. I received response today, 1/20/12. "Thank you for contacting us. We are sorry that your lunch box is not functioning as expected. If you contact Amazon they will be happy to replace the unit for you for one that works. Please feel free to contact us back if there are any more issues and we will be happy to help you."

I really don't think that expecting the product to actual function is expecting too much. I'm glad they're confident a new one will work. I'm not so sure.
