5.0 out of 5 stars Great toy, doesn't stink at all!
The piano mat is a great toy. Both of my kids who love music and dancing enjoy it a lot.
In reference to the comment about a toxic smell: the piano mat doesn't smell at all (and I am very sensitive to that). May be it was another brand, but the piano made by Smart Planet and sold by Back to Basics doesn't have any toxic or other smell. By the way it's cheaper on...

2.0 out of 5 stars slip slidin' away
the idea of this toy is great... the reality however, with two very active kids, not so much.
The kids played with it for about 4 minutes and then started sliding on it across the floor.
Although they "made it work" for them, I wasn't so thrilled as I wanted something a bit more
contained.
I think if there was some way to make it "stay put" it...

I like the features of this piano, but the white part of the keys is quite small, making it difficult to play a song with your feet. My 3-year-old son loves playing the demo songs, but for that a regular-sized keyboard would do. This is a fine product as long as you don't want to actually play a song with your feet, and just want to jump around on it. There is also a nice feature where you can play each note of a demo song one-by-one by hitting any key.

I ordered this piano for a party, which had about 40 children ages 15 and under. To my surprise the toy held up to many, many children playing on it. There were even times where there was lack of supervision and more than one child was on the mat at once and still the toy held up. At times, there were even grown ups and older children playing some well known tunes on the mat. At the end of the night, the piano was still playing clearly and with a quick wipe off with a wet cloth, was in great condition. If it can hold up to that kind of use, or maybe you can say, misuse, I believe it's a durable and fun toy.

5.0 out of 5 stars So Much Fun!, November 11, 2007

I bought the piano as a gift for my 4 yr old niece for her birthday. She hasn't received it yet but I have been playing it just for fun to try it out. I LOVE it and can't wait to see how much fun she's going to have on it. It's so easy to figure out (didn't come with directions? not sure why). It is similar to a keyboard where you can change up the instrument sound. The piano keys can become a drum, a trumpet and a couple other instruments. I would absolutely buy this again as a gift!! It also has volume controls that worked great. Everything is operated by your feet.

[...] We purchased it for a 3 year old birthday gift and it was a hit. Once opened, 4 kids (ages 2-4) were jumping all over the thing. The sound/volume is great but I wouldn't call it music - but I would definitely call it fun. It engaged the youngest and the oldest people in the room - everyone just had to touch it. Maybe as the kids get older they will learn to "play" it. Overall - a blast. Great gift idea - don't forget the batteries!

We were looking for a creative a fun toy for our 4 year yr. old grandson for christmas this year that wasn't going to end up in the closet. and this one is one of his best yet, he brings it out to show everyone !The only thing it does has a tenicency to move around one the wood floors so if it had some kind of grips it could be just alittle bit better. Thanks

None of the notes are in tune. I know it's for children, but I had this grand notion of playing guitar and stomping on a keyboard at the same time. The intervals between the keys aren't even consistent.

The thing smelled very badly of cheap plastic fumes too.

For the price, not worth it. I returned it.

1.0 out of 5 stars DID NOT WORK, December 27, 2010
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Smart Planet Piano Mat (Toy)
Our little one got this for xmas from Santa (grandma)Dec 2010. It did not work. After double checking the batteries and making sure we had new batteries in it only the red power light came on. Nothing else happened... It DID NOT WORK from the start. Plus with a very excited little one it wa even harder to try and explain that it was not working. Real bummmer product. I even tried to find some contact info on the box and only could find Made in China which explains it, ie. Cheaply Made. The product is extremely slippery. I almost took myself out trying to test it on the kitchen floor. The fine print on the box from Smart Planet says it compling with saftey regulations but after reading reviews of this product i dont believe it. Unfortunately, Grandma could not return it, so another thing of plastic going into a landfill. We will not be buying any products from Smart Planet again.
