This review is from: Smart Label Printer 450 with 300 Dpi for Windows and Mac (USB and Serial) (SLP-450) (Office Product)
I had a smart label printer in the past and loved it. It did its job for a decade or more with no problems. But when I upgraded my computer, I found that it would not work and that at that time there was no Smart Label that would work with Vista. So I bought a Brother product which I thought would be the same. It was not. The labels looked the same (although they came in a spindle thing that was more expensive and the software was a lot more complicated. When I switched to MAC last year, I again was faced with incompatibles and saw the Smart Label 450. It is not as user friendly as the original SLP, but it is easier than the brother and does not require filling out "forms" on each piece of address info in the correct field. With the SLP you just type it in and it goes. Much easier. It's easier to connect up and the labels can be purchased almost anywhere. And you get to choose SLP ones or generic.
Importing is not all that complicated. I don't need all the functions that are available, so it all could be simpler, but for those with more complex mailing lists, I think that might be a plus. All in all this is a much better product than the Brother.

This label printer is so easy to install and use. It is very versitile for many uses. Changing the kind of labels and then printing is quick and easy. Small enough that the footprint on my office desk is not overwhelming. Perfect size for accessability. The printing quality is clear and very good. The storage for multiple use of a particular label is a great plus.
This is truly a product that you take out of the box, quickly install the software (included)plug in the printer and start to use it!

Seiko Smart Label Printer,

I purchased the Seiko Smart Label printer 450 for my wife for Christmas 2010. Earlier in the year I purchased a model 440 to replace a 10 year old earlier Seiko printer. We also have an older Dymo printer so I can make limited comparisons. When comparing the Seiko vs. the Dymo I find that the Seiko printer has more printing options and is more flexibility. I especially like the ability to print file folder labels without having to invert the printing as you have to do with the Dymo. Comparing the 440 vs. the 450, I recommend the latter because the print speed is a little faster. Also, since the Seiko labels are not readily available I use the Dymo labels that can be found in most office supply stores.

I have had a Smart Label Printer for about 15 years. I started using one in our office to address labels to send out catalogs. It is great for labeling file folders and all sorts of things. The automatic postal bar code is also a helpful feature. When we switched to Macs, the old printer with its serial port interface would not work on the Mac. We tried to see if we could get along without it, even though we don't send out catalogs anymore and we couldn't. So we bought a new 450. It has a higher resolution printer capability to facilitate photographs and graphics, but we don't use that feature. Overall we are very pleased.

We ordered two of these for use in a medical practice for printing chart labels. It was easy to install, has a relatively small desk "footprint," and prints nicely.
The problem we have is with one of the two printers. Whenever we install a new roll of labels, we have to fiddle with the applications (i.e. print a test print page, open and close the document we were using) before the labels will print. It's just glitchy at times. I would definitely recommend this label printer. My guess is that we have a unique situation with the one that is causing some problems.

Solid performance and relatively easy to use but plastic construction is less sturdy than previous models of this printer. Supplies easy to find and install. Would purchase again.

Had a model SLP120 and needed a version which connected to a new computer thru USB, so ordered the SLP450. Couldn't be more satisfied; have labeled everything. No more wondering, "What's in that package?" Use the standard labels (1 1/8 x 3 1/2) most of the time, but the ability to use larger labels for more data is convenient.
Mail is always addressed using the SLP and the illegible addresses and return address are a thing of the past.

I'm extremely happy with this little guy. I had my last Smart Label Printer for years, and its still humming along. But my new All-In-One P.C. doesn't have a serial port or the ability to add one. Time to go USB. You don't know how often you knock out a quick label until you have one of these. Very, very convenient, and since it's thermal you don't need replace ink. When they add color I'll replace this one.

I have had a Seiko Label Maker for well over 10 years. Recently my 200 model died and I purchased the new Smart Label Printer 450. This model is so fast and the updated software is great. I use this every day for mailing labels, folder labels, etc. On top of that their Customer Service and Tech Support is tops and it's free. They will help you with any problem you might encounter and they are very knowledgeable. This tool makes my job so much easier and I can't be without it. I highly recommend it to everyone.
