This is an excellent toy for both pretend playing and shape matching. All parts are made of a heavy-duty soft rubber. Vibrant colors. Same can be said of the stacking ice cream cone sister product made by the same company. It fits perfectly into the oven of the Step2 Lifestyle Kitchen. My two year old daughter and 4 y.o. son both love playing with this.

my son LOVES this game. the cupcakes are farely easy to pull out of the cupcake holder. . .the tops of the cupcakes also have the same shape as the bottom.
this has been very instrumental in helping him learn his shapes

I bought this set for my duaghter when she turned 2, and it was an immediate hit. She is 4 1/2 now, and still loves it. My little boy, who is 22 months old, loves it even more, and plays with it every day. This my be the best value toy I've ever purchased.

This is a great high quality play food product, that doubles as a learning tool for kids. My kids love it and I love that the quality of the item is better than that of many of the brands out there that sell play food.

I purchased these almost 4 years ago for my in-home childcare and the kids love "baking" them every day, especially our youngest, who is 2 years old. The cupcakes are durable (the set still looks like new), the perfect size for kids' hands, and have fun designs and shapes to make the fun educational. The cupcakes have shapes on the bottom of them that fit into the bottom half of the cupcakes, so these encourage/improve shape recognition, cognitive skills, and fine motor (small muscles, such as your fingers) skills. Of course, I haven't told my kids they're actually learning through play. :) I will say that the tops and bottoms are difficult for children (even me) to separate, but they still enjoy them. We all love the fact that it comes with a pan that has the shapes on the bottom of each cup...more cupcake-matching fun!
I've been teaching for more than 20 years and this is one of the best toys I've seen because of it's simplicity, durability, educational value, dramatic play use, the fact that it doesn't need batteries, and--most importantly--how much children enjoy it! The price is definitely inexpenssive for this set, too. I serve natural, organic, and generally healthy foods to our kids and have very few "sweets" in our play kitchen area. However, I don't mind the cupcakes and think they're well worth the investment for your little bakers!

We have had these cupcakes for one year and they are still in great condition. They are played with almost daily. My son discovered these when he was two years old and attending a preschool-type class. Every time he went to class, he would go straight for the cupcakes. He carried them around the whole time. Since he was getting a toy kitchen for Christmas, we bought the cupcakes to go along with it. He loves them! Currently, my son is 3 and a half, and we have a one-year-old girl. They both love baking the cupcakes repeatedly in their oven. My son loves to match the shapes and my daughter is learning how to, as well. I have to say that they do not often pull apart the cupcakes to match the two parts, but that does not take away from the fun! My son talks about the colors of the different cupcake "liners," he talks about the shapes of the sprinkles on top, he serves the cupcakes to his parents, his sister, and stuffed animals. These have been extremely popular in our home! I do think they could have done a more basic shape instead of a "plus sign" or "x," whichever you interpret it as. They included the circle, square, star, triangle, crescent (or "moon")-- and then an X? I think a heart would have been more appropriate.

why this toy has so many stars?? it smells like a vinyl and after 2 weeks of playing with it 2 cupcakes are already broken (top of the cupcake separates from the bottom which makes it impossible to play with) it is going back!

My niece loves these, a great addition to her llittle kitchen. It is a toy she can grow in to as she learns
her shapes & how to put things together. The shapes are everywhere - on the cupcake pan, the bottom of the liners, the cupcakes - all fit together! Nice sturdy materials, not flimsy or cheap feeling. She will have many years of baking cupcakes for all of us...

I bought this for my 2 yr old son for Christmas to help him learn his shapes, and to solidify his colors. I thought it would be a secondary toy to some of the "better" ones I bought but he absolutely loved this and played with it all day. His 4 yr old sister also loved it and they had all sorts of fun sharing muffins (they like them better as muffins) all day. He hasn't identified the shapes necessarily but I love that he has to match up the right shapes from the top and the bottom and also to put it back in the pan correctly. He has been learning his colors though because his sister always "orders" which muffin she wants by color and he gives her the correct one. My 9 yr old son won't admit it but I also caught him playing with this toy with them. They are a little hard to pull apart at first but after a solid day of playing, my son has no problem pulling them apart and putting them back together. He has only had it a little over a week but it seems to be holding up very well.
