I cannot say enough about this toy. I have a one year old who absolutely loves it. I am thrilled that there is a toy out there that will grow with my child. I am more estatic that I was able to add Spanish content to the toy. Now, when Leo plays with the toy he hears all the content in Spanish. It just helps to reinforce what he is learning at home from his parents. The price is also just right. The setup is easy, you can nativagate through the website with no problem and the customer service is incredibly helpful. I am thrilled that my one year old will be growing up with a Smart-e-Dog. I created two playdates, the first playdate is in English and the other playdate is in Spanish. I downloaded Spanish songs, stories and games already. I look forward to adding new content as my child gets older and as the smart-e website library grows. I know that other languages will be available in the near future. Overall, the best present we could have gotten for my child. I highly recommend this toy to all parents. I have already purchased two more to give as gifts.

I never trust the worst reviews on items so you will probably just ingore this review anyway, but the only thing I have to say is...if you have issues from the beginning return it right away don't wait until the warrenty expires.

Ipod wrapped in a soft toy, but love it!, January 17, 2011

We originally bought this dog for our 2 1/2 year old who is a very quiet child, I thought he'd like to listen to the stories. Unfortunately he hasn't gotten a chance to play with it very much because his 1 year old brother leapt on it the moment he saw it and stole the toy!
Our toddler got the Smart-E-Dog for Christmas, so it's been almost a month that it hasn't been out of my 1 year old's arms. He takes it to bed with him every night, and plays with it often during the day, dancing about to the different songs.
Nothing gets him settled down like a quiet story on his bear which is very soft to snuggle with. As it is a I have to wait until the little guy is fast asleep if I want to update or change the songs; but the software is very quick and easy to use.
I love that you can customize the dog to say your child's name, it makes them so happy!
Cons:
-The smart-E-dog library isn't as extensive as it could be, and yes you do have to pay $.99 - 4.99 or so for different songs and books. It would be great if they had more popular children's entertainers available. The content the dog comes with plus the freebies from the site is quite extensive and would keep most kids happy for a while.
-If you put tons of songs on the dog it's annoying have to go through all of them to get back to the main menu. There are ways around these two issues for the tech-savvy.
-It is a little difficult to push the buttons inside the paws/feet, so my 1 year old can't manipulate it well (although our 2 1/2 year old has no problem). However, you can put the dog on shuffle mode, then it will just play music continuously.
-The dog's voice is all right in short intervals, but I can't stand to listen to the entire 3 little pigs story so we opted not to put that one on. Thankfully the speakers are very uni-directional, so sitting with it in the car I can barely hear it from the front-seat, while both my sons can hear every word the dog is saying.
The cons are nothing compared to the happiness it has brought my little guy, I would buy this toy again and again. We may well be buying the toddler another one for his birthday, but I fear my 1 year old will just steal that one too!
