Stopped working after just 3 months.

When the sun is shining it is terrific...no storage for the solar energy, so it doesn't work at all on cloudy days!
Nancy O'Brien
It is working great so far, hope it will last longer.

I've tried all sorts of solar products for my pond. Most have a pathetic dribble for a few weeks and then die. I've been pleasantly surprised so far with the Smart Solar lily. It's a little cheesy-looking, especially next to real lily pads in the pond, but it's cute. With direct sun, I get about a six inch spray, enough to aerate a little section of the pond and give some nice water noise. When a cloud passes overhead, it drops to a low gurgle or even stops altogether.
Instructions were very straightforward - hook the two pieces together, select a spout, and fill a little anchor bag with rocks so the lily pad does not float to an unlit section of the water.
For the price, I'm pleased. Of course I wish it provided a bigger spray of water, but it's solar... of the five I have tried, this one is the best.

I've wanted to buy this solar lily pad for some time now, but I hesitated because of the price. I'm glad I purchased it because it's very well made, sounds pretty (even from indoors), and should attract birds like my other solar fountain, purchased on Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/Smart-Solar-21372R01-Ceramic-Fountain/dp/B003BEA3SG). The size makes it somewhat difficult to find a suitable bowl. The diameter needs to be at least 14" (measured from the inside of the bowl), since the lily pad is 12" wide. It also has to be deep enough (min. 4"); the black bowl I bought is approx. 11" in depth. It's not terribly pretty, but it'll do for now.

If you like the chimes in the background, they are from Woodstock Chimes (the melody is called: "Wedding Chimes"). I purchased them from Amazon, here: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Woodstock%20Wedding%2034%20Inch%20Wind%20Chime (Wouldn't it be nice if you got a kick-back?) ; )

Update: I loved this at first and gave it 5 stars...after a couple months the green surface of the lily pad peeled off. It looks very bad. Disappointed as I like things to look nice, in addition to functioning well. And it's not like it had 100+ temps and sun glaring down on it, it's been a cool, partly-cloudy summer.

Original Review: I have this in a plastic flower pot that measures 21" on the inside diameter. At the beginning of my video, a thin cloud was passing overhead partially blocking the sun so the spray wasn't as high. At the video's end, there is blue sky and the spray is 10" to 12" high. In the past I had a larger patio fountain with an electric water pump, but it was overkill for a small space, and on top of the water noise, I could hear the electric motor that worked the pump. On top of that, the fountain was made of resin and lasted only 3 summers before it cracked from the sun.....So this solar fountain is perfect. The only way it could be MORE perfect is if it worked on a cloudy day (which I knew it wouldn't when I ordered it!) Even a smaller cloud blocking the sun on an otherwise sunny day will cause it to stop for a few moments. This is very relaxing to listen to the trickling water, and it's also easy to keep clean.

Perfect addition to a pool or small pond. It adds so much ambiance. The fountain provides tranquility and relaxation to any atmosphere. For the best performance, be sure to place it in the sunniest location in your pool/pond.

This is a very clever product. I put it in a very large bird bath next to a goofy looking frog. When the sun hits the solar panel the lily pad sprinkles water. I love watching it and the only thing is I have to make sure there is enough water in the bird bath so the lily pad has enough water to spray.

I was very hesitant about the price but I really enjoy my fountain. The fish like to hide under it and it is very easy to clean. Great little product.

I have a whiskey barrel that I filled with water and put some pond plants in. We have no outlet for electricity, but I wanted a fountain to attract the birds. I put this in and the birds loved it. There were in there everyday splashing around attracted by the little fountain, which works very well here in Utah as we have plenty of sun. And then one day, my weimaraner discovered it. THE END.

Last year we used similar solar lily product from TotalPond company. It worked for only one summer -- We were very disappointed. When I came across this one on Amazon, we decided to give it a try since it is a different company and reviews are positive. It is working great so far, hope it will last longer. This product adds life to our backyard as birds come by to drink or bathe.
