OOPS the price goes up and the quality goes down! I have had more failures with my later pumps- still think that it is a good idea - I just wish they wouldn't mess with a good product for a larger profit margin!!!!! December, 2009
earlier I had written . . . I read the negative reviews for this SOLAR pump (some even complain that it only works when it is sunny - - - duh). I have had my first one now for three years and I love it. It couldn't be easier to set up - a couple of screws, stick the panel into ground (it can also be mounted) and put the thingy in the birdbath and VOILA! It isn't a fountain but it is perfect for a birdbath. I played with all the different heads that send the water up higher - about 8 to 10 inches - and opted to just use it with no head and let it bubble to a height of about 4 inches on sunny days and the birds go nuts for it - sometimes they sit right on top of it . . . bet that feels good on a hot day! I confess that I am not that diligent about cleaning it out around the filter BUT this little pump is so forgiving that it keeps going anyway. Occasionally it needs to be taken apart if some debris gets in (you can tell when it happens because it makes a funny humming sound) but the maintenance is so minimal that only a birdbrain would find it a chore. I have had the water wigglers in birdbaths - they're okay but they get funky and rusty - that is why I am buying my second and third solar pump to replace the wigglers in the other baths.

lost in my birdbath,

This item is "cute" - for a small birdbath and in a small area. Mine looks "lost" in the 18 inch wide bowl in my birdbath and in the wide open surrounding area because the water does not go up too high. It does not go as high as shown in the photo. It would be nice for a smaller bath and maybe on a deck. It is pretty easy to assemble and does work. Just not as impressive as the photo and write up make it appear.

Disappointing,

I just purchased this item to use in our new landscaping. By maximum flow of 10" they mean if you are really lucky!. I found it to be more like 5-6" in full sun. It does make a nice addition, but my next purchase w/ be an electric fountain/pump w/ more power.

My wife really likes this and so do the birds. We hope that this will draw the hummingbirds this summer! The only draw back is this only runs when the direct sun shines on the panel!!! My little next door neighbor thinks I am magical, I have him walk in front of the panel and it goes off, he asks, "Mr. G, how'd you do that? We just laugh...... I wish that it stored energy for a few hours when the sun is blocked by a cloud. Other than that, this is a pretty good buy.

I've just set up a little front garden with fragrant potted plants, a hummingbird feeder and a small table and chairs and I wanted a water feature which would serve both as a bird bath and provide the sound of splashing water, but there's no electricity available and I didn't want to wire something in. I have a 24" wide pot with pretty rocks and water. I set up the fountain as soon as it arrived, in the middle of the night. I'd read the mixed reviews here and was a little nervous, but in the morning I had lovely splashing water. I played around a little with the solar panel placement (it comes with both a stake and a mount for attaching it to a deck, roof, etc.) and my fountain splashes prettily all day. The fountain too comes with a float for deeper ponds or can be set in the bottom of a shallower pond (as I have mine). There are three different fountain heads. I used the one with the most sprays and it sprays about eight inches up all day long, as long as it's sunny. Even when the sun goes behind a cloud, the fountain gets lower but doesn't stop spraying.
I've only had it for three days, but so far it's absolutely perfect. All of my neighbors have commented on my lovely fountain and the wonderful sound of splashing water.

I purchased this pump for a little water feature for a garden that was away fom any electrical source, and it works very well. The water stream is as high as the manufacturer promised (actually a little higher), it was extremely easy to set up and I am satisfied with it so far.
A second panel, connected in series to the pump would be even better. As the sun moves overhead, I have adjusted the location of the panel to catch the light more directly (today is only the second day I have had it, so I am still trying to work out the best way to operate it). So far, the birds and kids love it. Linda Kuzma

I wanted sprinkling water for large bird bath and this works well, although it actually doesn't shoot the water up as well as advertised. It has a teeny filter that clogged easily, so I made an additional filter and rubber banded it around the outside. (All those years of maintaining a swimming pool paid off). Now it goes a week without needing to be cleaned.

I bought this solar pump for a birdbath in my backyard. I read the other reviews and understood that it was not going to be the most powerful fountain, but I was ok with that.
I have had it running in my yard for several weeks so far and it has worked very well. It creates a calming trickle sound and attracts birds to the water.

I purchased a first pump of the same name a couple years ago and another recently. The newest pump started to decline within a couple weeks and stopped altogether within a few months. Old unit ... going strong. I have to agree with an earlier post eluding to a decline in quality.

I purchased this solar pump to put in a birdbath, and am very happy with it. I knew when I ordered it, that it would not be pumping all the time when the sun wasn't out or directly hitting the solar panel. I've placed the panel where it would get most of the afternoon sun. Some of the birds like the fountain and others don't. So when it's pumping only the birds that like it use it, and when it's off the other birds come. It's pleasing to watch and listen to when you're sitting outside. I would recommend this to those who don't care if it's not running all the time.
