5.0 out of 5 stars Best Christmas Gift!
...my 4- and 2-year old nephews LOVE these...I bought a couple sets of plastic tongs and little plastic crates and they played for hours moving the crabs from the "basket" the "steamer!" Great gift for lovers of the Chesapeake Bay and steamed crabs! The older nephew is actually somewhat interested in the letters on the crabs, too.

3.0 out of 5 stars Smart Splash - Letter Link Crabs
This is potentially a wonderful educational toy. My one complaint (and the disappointment of my grandson) is that it has only one alphabet letter/vowel per package. For example, you cannot spell "mommy" or "daddy". Most alphabet educational toys have several common letters and vowels per set.

I think these crabs were cute, but I did not realize they were squirty toys. I do not like squirty toys for the tub, so I returned them.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT mold resistant, January 23, 2012

I specifically got these because they are described as being mold resistant. After we received them and started playing with them, I noticed that each one has a small squirt hole in it. Squirt toys are not mold resistant. When toys allow water in, but cannot totally dry out, it is the perfect breeding ground for mold. And why would I want my children bathing with mold? Total false advertising. Completely disappointing and a waste of money.

2.0 out of 5 stars more trouble than they're worth, March 26, 2009

They do not stay together if you move the chain of them the least little bit. This really frustrates my child and annoys me!
It is not easy to get them linked together in the first place.
Our "n" is upside down from the rest of them. When the we put the alphabet in order, the lowercase "n" looks like a "u" and confuses my son. Not good for learning to recognize his letters!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sensory Alphabet Activity, September 4, 2008

With a 3 year old family member (diagnosed with autism)needing sensory activities, I searched the various websites, & found this product of Smart Splash-Letter Link Crabs. I read several reviews & took note that there were only 26 pieces in the product, one for each letter of the alphabet; one side has the lowercase letter, & the other side has the uppercase letter. The crabs link with their claws. I was fascinated to imagine that this 3 year old would use these sensory stimulating letters to spell her own name, family member names, & "Mommy" & Daddy". So, I decided to get her 3 sets so she could do more than arrange the letters in alphabetical order, using this sensory activity.
When I checked the contents upon arrival, 2 of 3 sets were complete, while the 3rd set had 2 of one letter, and missed another. I immediately emailed the seller, & received an email later in the day. After 10 days of back & forth emails, a small brown envelope arrived with the much needed letter. Thanks, Everett at Gile Toys!
Just as I explained to the company representative, I suggest Gile Toys re-package this game with "just what I bought", namely 3 sets of these 26 letters, and charge for the "new & improved set" of 78 letters (little crabs), perhaps at about $28 to $30 (less the packaging), and provide a sensory & interactive activity for children diagnosed with special needs, in this case a child diagnosed with autism, now age 3, & hasn't spoken, yet, but we are hope-filled.
I am looking forward to observing this little 3 year old engage in an activity to spell her own name and other family members' names, as a means of communicating. Coincidentally, she has 3 of one of the letters in her first name. Lastly, I hope to get a video clip of her engagement with this game.
