4.0 out of 5 stars Holds Heat...But Doesn't Hold Up!
These packs are great to microwave and use when heat is needed, especially on your lower back after a long day! They hold the heat a very long time. The drawback is that they tend to blister and burst with repeated use. Even if they are not overheated in the microwave, they do not last very long. 2.0 out of 5 stars Great, but ...
I used this product for several years. I like it because it holds the heat very well. However, I have just switched to a bead-filled pack because, after a few months of use (not even the whole winter), the plastic cracks open and the goop spills out at the place where it folds to fit into the microwave.

These packs are great to microwave and use when heat is needed, especially on your lower back after a long day! They hold the heat a very long time. The drawback is that they tend to blister and burst with repeated use. Even if they are not overheated in the microwave, they do not last very long. It seems like one area will always get very hot and blister the plastic pac, while another area is still cold. I still purchase them, as I have not found a better product, but the plastic bag that holds the heating "goop" could be thicker to prevent blistering.

I purchased this pack to use for a back injury. It is a wonderful ice pack . . . wide enough to ice the whole lower back. It is great for driving (I use it when I commute to and from work). I shopped around and looked at several comparable ice packs before finding this one. For the price, you can't beat it. Similar packs cost twice as much or more. Although it can be heated, I have not used it as a hot pack -- some of the remarks made by other customers say the cover blisters and tends to wear when used as a heated pack. As a cold pack, it is perfect. I am sure you will be as satisfied with your purchase as I have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long-lasting and fast freezing, June 25, 2008
I have a back injury that leads to severe inflammation. I've tried several cold packs but they all fall far short of the kaz Smarttemp. I have 2 of them that I alternate in the freezer (or microwave). It takes about 30 minutes for the Smarttemp to become very cold, about 1 hour to freeze to a semi-rigid (but completely pliable) state and lasts about 30-45 mins. I have even put them in our ice chest while camping and they are very cold after 2 hours. I don't use the heat as much, but when I have it has lasted about 20-30 mins.

It comes with a soft cover, which I recommend you remove while freezing or heating (it just heats/freezes faster if its not on). The seams have come apart on both of them, but please understand that I use these several times a DAY. Taking them in and out of the case over and over and over again. I don't blame the product but my constant abuse of it. I've used both of them daily for over 6 months and they are are just now starting to wear out...not because the product is defective, but because I have a cat who thinks he's a polar bear and loves to sleep on them and lick them..and has bitten through in a couple of places. They are still usable, however.

If you need a durable heat/cold pad that is comfortable to use, this is the one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, May 25, 2008
This review is from: Smart Temp HC1302 Portable Reusable Hot/Cold Pad (Health and Beauty)
As one other reviewer noted, they can rupture and become unusable -- we have lost 2 over the past couple of years since we started using them. However the malleability and comfort make these far better than any other heat pad we've ever used. I typically use it for a neck ache or lower back ache and the way it comfortably conforms to my neck or back is wonderful. My wife loves to heat one up and take it to bed with her or to settle into a chair to read on a chilly evening. Also, the convenience of heating it in the microwave oven, vs. having to plug it in, is really nice. Highly recommended -- recommend that you buy a spare.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for warming the sheets too!, January 10, 2010
By
This review is from: Smart Temp HC1302 Portable Reusable Hot/Cold Pad (Health and Beauty)
I purchased this item for shoulder & elbow pain. I've never used it as a cold pack; just for heat. It does get extremely hot and holds heat for some time if you heat for maximum time safely allowed. My favorite reason to use it: to warm my sheets in the winter! Under the covers, it holds heat almost all night to keep my feet warm. Unfortunately, after many, many uses, it did burst in the microwave. There was no mess, though - only a hole in the bag. I am just about to purchase another one.

I've purchased 2 of these, one to use as a cold pack and one to use in place of a traditional heating pad. Sometimes the pain can be too severe to bend over and plug in a regular heating pad; and to use as a cold pack, you don't have to stand for a long time placing crushed ice cubes in a regular pack.

They work as advertised and stay hot or cold for a very long time. Be careful when heating in the microwave, though, because if you get it too hot it will take a long time to cool down enough to be safe.

I take away 1 star because straight out of the freezer, the pack is very stiff and lumpy.

Works very well! Particularly think the strap is substantial and keeps it in place (especially if you use it on your leg and need to move around).

4.0 out of 5 stars Hot/Cold Jell Pad, March 7, 2011

This review is from: Smart Temp HC1302 Portable Reusable Hot/Cold Pad (Health and Beauty)
This is a replacement of my first Smart hot/cold pad. My first lasted about 4yrs with frequent use as a hot pad. I do find that it doesn't heat evenly when placed folded in the microwave and it does tend to bubble up nearing the end of the 4minute heat up.

I have sinusitis and use the pad covered with a dishtowel to place on my eyes/nose. I highly recommend this product to anyone who has frequent sinus/headache trouble. I'll keep replacing this pad as long as I can obtain them.
