4.0 out of 5 stars Best handwriting app on the kindle fire January 9, 2012
Verified Purchase
I purchased 7notes on sale for $5 (was waiting for my stylus to arrive in the mail) and I would have gladly paid the $10.

The app is best used with a good stylus (I use a Verteks Black) and a little practice is required to get the hang of writing on this screen. I was hoping to be able to replace my notebooks with my kindle and keep all of my school note taking in one place. This, I can safely say I will now definitely do.

Handwriting is smooth and easy once you can find your comfortable writing speed. I am normally a fast and sloppy handwriter and had to slow myself down a little, but I am more than comfortable writing at this speed.

I rate this app a 4/5, but only because I wish it had a way to organize your notes. currently, all are displayed on one long list. There exists a limited search function though.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good 3x5 notecard replacement (UPDATED) January 8, 2012
Verified Purchase
Update 4/25/2012 - I've reduced a star since there have not been any updates at all since I downloaded it early on. Makes me wonder how much the developer cares about maintaining it. I am too annoyed at the default behavior of putting you in a new note every time (my original review didn't like this and they have not addressed) so I've stopped using this app in favor of FreeNote+ for my 3x5 replacement. FreeNote+ does not have recognition, but I've never used that. This is still a nice enough app, but lack of new features has led me to drop my original 4-star assessment.

Original review:

My particular situation has me writing most of my notes these days on 3x5 note cards, and for that scenario this program appears that it will serve its purpose very well. In other words, short bits of writing--bullet list kind of stuff, brief and to the point. I personally would not consider this in a situation where I would write extensive amounts of text or even notes from a long meeting or class that would require a lot of note taking--and am not rating it in that light because I just wouldn't use a 7" tablet and stylus in that way regardless of the software package.

I like that you can use any or all of handwriting recognition, soft keyboard, and scribbles (which can be converted later if you want) in the same note. I can't say for sure whether this will replace my trusty note cards, but I am going to give it a try and if it doesn't work I suspect it will be more to do with the form factor of a tablet than this program. The recognition is impressive (to me at least) but I expect that I will have to train my handwriting a little bit to be more effective.

1.0 out of 5 stars Big waste of money. December 31, 2011

Well I got "got" again buying an app just because it's "specially made" for the Kindle Fire. Wishful thinking on my part that the ridiculously high price would reflect the quality of this app.

You get about one inch of writing area so of course you're limited to one or two words at a time--not my idea of quick note taking. No help, tutorial or instructions whatsoever. The "online help" --from the app's own menu--does not exist as it comes up error 404 and is half English and half Chinese. An independent online search was fruitless. Pretty poor for a brand new app. It appears they put more into the promo than into any useful help *after* you buy it.

If you think taking notes by writing one or two huge words at a time is quick and easy, then maybe you'll find this app useful, otherwise save your money. I wish I'd stuck with the free notepad apps I already have that work great (using the keyboard.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for quick notes April 14, 2012

The Kindle Fire is great to use in the office but typing notes can take more time than writing. I think this note writing app will work beautifully in the office.

It takes a little practice. In the writing area there are lines but you can write in large script or print. If you choose to write in script it does not require you to dot i's or cross t's which is a nice feature. There is also some suggested words above your writing with the one it thinks you are writing in bold and other suggested words in grayed cells. Just tap on the grayed cell if that is the word you want to use.

TIP: When you begin you may notice that the writing in progress displays with a grayed background at the top of the screen to indicate unsaved text. It also displays just above where you are writing. To save the text in progress just press on the ... just above your writing area. This allows you to save during a writing session. It also allows more flexibility when you need to edit.

Deleting text: When writing a sentence you can press the DELETE button to backspace. However, if you do a long press on the delete button there are 3 options: SUB-BLOCK (the last letter which is the default), BLOCK (the word to the last space) and ALL (the last unsaved writing section). For saved sections of writing you can move your cursor anywhere to insert or delete text.

TIP: The RETURN button is grayed out until you save your last writing section. Just save your text section and the RETURN button is available to use.

I can see that there are a lot of options in settings. The MENU button takes you to the general app Settings but the Kindle Fire menu takes you to another Settings with options for Email, Twitter, Facebook and Evernote.

I haven't found yet how to name or organize my notes but I have just started playing with this app.
