Amazon.com Review

Operating under a lifelong conviction that proper money management is "the only permanent way to reduce poverty in Black America," Kelvin Boston--a prominent financial advisor and host of television's syndicated "The Color of Money"--has developed a strategy to help struggling members of the African American community attain a sound fiscal footing. Smart Money Moves for African Americans presents his down-to-earth advice on investment, entrepreneurship, credit management, and tax planning, and guides readers through the systematic creation of a reliable financial plan.

From Library Journal

Boston hosts the syndicated program The Color of Money, publishes the Color of Money Journal and Corporate Detroit magazine, and is a former financial planner. Broussard is a registered investment adviser and a principal in a money management firm; she also lectures and edits an investment newsletter. Both authors agree that the foundation of good money management is to curb credit card abuse and to build net worth through savings and investment programs. Boston, however, succeeds in using statistics and African American history throughout his book to motivate change. He writes fluidly and persuasively, often quoting scripture or African American leaders. He even has a chapter on the special problems of African American women. Broussard, in contrast, has some statistics, but by and large her advice is not tied as closely to African American culture. Certain suggestions are debatable, such as the idea that at some point precious metals belong in a portfolio, and she gets into some nitty-gritty aspects of money management that Boston omits. While these two books cover a lot of the same ground, Boston's is truly excellent. It is highly recommended for public libraries with African American patrons; Broussard's is nonessential but could be bought if demand justifies.?Sue McKimm, Cuyahoga Cty. P.L., Parma, Ohio

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Book, July 11, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Smart money moves for african-americans (Mass Market Paperback)
In short I want to say that after reading this book, I started investing my money in something besides a a low to no interest bank account and sought ways as explained in the book to increase my net worth. This book is a must read for African Americans and anyone else who hasn't invested any money for various reasons (I should say various excuses). It has been at least 3 years since I read the book and my strategies learned from this book have been very beneficial. A great book for the amateur investor like myself with an intelligent insight of African American issues.
