4.0 out of 5 stars Good Portable Hard Drive
I bought this item about a year ago and it has worked great ever since. It is the perfect size for a lap top user as I am able to easily carry it in my briefcase or lap top holder, it is smaller than most lap top batteries. I only plug it in when I back up data to it or need to transfer large amounts of data from one computer to another but I just plug it in and its...

2.0 out of 5 stars Mini USB Connector
This drive is fantastic except for one GIANT design flaw -- it uses ONE MINI USB connector!

I also own a firewire version of the same drive, and it has two full-sized firewire connectors. It was a huge disappointment to receive the USB version with only one connector, and a non-standard size at that!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Portable Hard Drive, August 3, 2004

I bought this item about a year ago and it has worked great ever since. It is the perfect size for a lap top user as I am able to easily carry it in my briefcase or lap top holder, it is smaller than most lap top batteries. I only plug it in when I back up data to it or need to transfer large amounts of data from one computer to another but I just plug it in and its ready to go. It operates extremely quietly and does not overheat. The ONLY problem I have had with it is that it does not work on my PowerBook G4 lap top, this is more of a fault with the computer than the drive as it works on my compaq laptop and the 12 and 17 inch versions of the PowerBook G4's as well as all the iBooks so it appears that the 15 inch USB ports can't power the drive by itself, it comes with an external powersource that may help this but I no longer have the cord. Other than that no problems, it easy goes back and forth betwen Windows and Apple with no problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Drive With Great Big Storage, April 11, 2005

My FireLite 60 gig portable drive was an instant hit when I got it recently -- honest-to-goodness plug & play, quiet, fast and light. The styling is excellent, too, making it an accessory I will be happy to take with me wherever I go. A must-have for laptop users. SmartDisk includes an external power cable for those few computers that can't power the drive via the USB port, too.

Great job, SmartDisk!

4.0 out of 5 stars Small Drive - Big Value, February 8, 2006
This review is from: SmartDisk USBFLB60 60 GB FireLite USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive (Personal Computers)
I love this little guy! I have had it in my bag for 8 months now, and it has 'saved the day' more than once. I am a consultant and am on the road 100% of the time, so I was looking for something light, compact and durable.

Pros:
- Smaller and lighter than similar drives (as compared to those of my colleagues)
- Does not require additional power source (on my laptop anyway)
- Preloaded backup software
- Very much "plug and play"; have used it on 7+ computers and all recognized and accessed the drive right away
- Detatchable USB cable: a plus since I can use the same cable to connect other devices (PDA)

Cons:
- Read/write speed is a little slower than I expected (but it is USB after all) but on par with others I have used.
- That's it!

2.0 out of 5 stars Mini USB Connector, October 31, 2005

I also own a firewire version of the same drive, and it has two full-sized firewire connectors. It was a huge disappointment to receive the USB version with only one connector, and a non-standard size at that!

The advertised benefit of this product is that you can keep it in your bag, and "save the day" when needed. Having a connector that uses a non-standard connector size, and not being able to grab any USB cable laying around to use the product unfortunately cripples this device.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!!, April 8, 2007
This review is from: SmartDisk USBFLB60 60 GB FireLite USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive (Personal Computers)
This is my first portable hard drive, and after 6 months I am still very pleased with it. It's a very convenient size so you can take your music and files with you wherever you go, and it is also plug and play, which means that you can access files without having to install software on every computer you use it with. Another good feature is that it works for both PCs or Macs. It's also useful as a backup hard drive to protect music files and docs in case your main computer fails.

1.0 out of 5 stars Smart Disk, May 6, 2007
This review is from: SmartDisk USBFLB60 60 GB FireLite USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive (Personal Computers)
The disk failed the first week after being used as a backup. All data was lost. The manufacturer was cooperative in replacing with a rebuilt disk. I could have bought a refurbished disk to start with and saved considerable money. I do not have enough time yet on this refurbished disk to evaluate the product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Had for years now..., March 5, 2011
This review is from: SmartDisk USBFLB60 60 GB FireLite USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive (Personal Computers)
I have had my fireLite for years now. Mine is a smaller one, only 37.5 gig.I still haven't filled it yet. It hasn't given me one problem. I love it, I keep everything on my computer that is important on this drive....pictures upon pictures and more. You won't be sorry if you buy a FireLite.

5.0 out of 5 stars SmartDisk Portable Hard Drive, December 28, 2007
This review is from: SmartDisk USBFLB60 60 GB FireLite USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive (Personal Computers)
I highly recommend this product, it is very compact and light easy to use. I have been using this for over 6 months and am very pleased with it. The price was right and have never had a problem with it. It is powered by the usb so there is no need for an additional plug. It is very portable, I have friends with other models and they are very bulky and not really portable, this really does the trick for storing your documents, music or pics and taking them from one PC to another.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised., May 21, 2007
This review is from: SmartDisk USBFLB60 60 GB FireLite USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive (Personal Computers)
I am using the product with a Dell Latitude D600. Many of my associates have had the hard drive fail on this model. I have 25GB +/- backed up. It backs up changed files automatically every day at the proper time. I of course will know if it is really as good as advertised if my hard drive fails and it restores all my work. In response to your question below, I am 50 years over the age of 13 thank you.
