Explore Anatomically Correct Models of the Skull and Body

This package contains two anatomically correct models for kids to dissect and explore. Our testers found that the model of the human skull was a challenge to assemble, so kids may need help from an adult to build it. The Human Body Model didn't require any assembly and is ready to dissect straight out of the box.

Activity Cards and Booklet Teach Science Facts

The fold-up Organ-izer chart keeps track of the dissected body parts as you explore and makes it easier to put the model back together when you're done. The included 24-page book is a colorful and easy-to-read tour of the wonders of the human brain with fun facts, activities, and quizzes.

The 10 activity cards explain operations you can do on the anatomically correct model with the included surgical tools as well as experiments that use common household items. Each card contains information about an organ, and some include colorful pictures of the real thing. The written materials present detailed scientific information in a way that is easy for kids to understand and interesting and informative for adults.

Bones, Nerves, and Eyeballs Glow in the Dark

Turn off the lights to see the Human Body's nerves and skeleton glow in the dark. The same eerie effect can be seen with the skull and its squishy eyeballs.

Dissect with Realistic, Safe Surgical Tools

With Squishy Science from Head to Toe, your child can be a surgeon. The plastic surgical tools are kid-safe and are modeled after their real-life equivalent. Our testers found the plastic scalpel was sharper than the other tools but still blunt enough that it would be safe for kids eight and up.

What's in the Box

12-inch plastic human body model with stand, nine removable squishy organs, 12 plastic bones and muscles, Organ-izer poster, eight brain pieces, two squishy eyeballs, eight-piece skull model with base, four vertebrae pieces with spinal cord, rubber band, forceps, scalpel, tweezers, 10 activity cards, 24-page book, and instruction sheet.

All the smart labs products are similar in pricing and all their products seem to be high quality however.

This piece is a bit hard to put together though.

When I was young, decades ago, the coolest science thing we kids saw and loved was The Invisible Man kit. This was an edutainment toy where you put together a guy and half of him showed showed musculation while the other half showed body organs. And over that was a clear plastic shell with veins. The SMARTLAB Squishy Science 'Head to Toe' is the modern, superior version of this.

And what fun. When it arrived I opened the box, took inventory of the contents, then I left it on the kitchen table until the kids came home. Wahzoo! As soon as they saw it, they (boy and girl) dropped everything and began exploring. They, in fact, became so engrossed that they forgot to ask for a snack... and that doesn't happen very often.

Now what you get in this kit are: a human body in miniature, major organs, a human skull, large brain pieces, stands, tweezers and forceps and scapel (fake), a book and a wisely plasticized foldout that says organizer on it. This foldout has shapes with names like 'rib cage' foot, lungs, liver.... There's also another large sheet which has assembly instructions with colored pictures and info cards.

The book(let) has strange facts and is pretty interesting, as are the cards.

The organs are delightfully tacky to the touch, but nothing comes off. They also smell a bit at first. My kids enjoyed playing surgeon, matching the organs to the chart, and reading the book.

Downsides are that the skull was nearly impossible to get together. The kids tried it and couldn't do it. I tried it and couldn't do it. Finally, my husband was able to manhandle the thing to snap together.

I, personally, would suggest this as a toy/gift/project for supervised younger children all the way up to Tweens.

I'm really surprised by all the rave reviews...
I wanted to love this but was dissapointed. We had a very difficult time putting this together. In the end, I (an adult!) was unable to successfully get the jaw to stay attached to the skull. The plastic pieces are rigid and we found them hard to work with and to keep in place. The organ pieces are really cool though. The best part, in my opinion, is the flash/fact cards included. These are probably the only thing we'll pull out in the future. There was no way to store all the pieces easily and unfortunately we didn't end up with 2 successfully completed models to display either. :(

This kit comes with a model of a head and brain as well as a full body model which shows the digestive track. The pieces are squishy, like it says, and the kids and I were making lots of ewww's and ick's while putting this together. Some of the pieces were pretty tricky to get on. The directions did an ok job, but on some parts, especially the skull, I would have liked a better close up. Regardless, this kit was fun to do. It really helped my kids visualize where the parts are in their bodies.

I liked the extra special items like the mat to put the pieces on so they don't get wrecked and the dissection tools. I think this was cool for the kids because they felt like they were doing something "adult" when they used the dissection tools.

Pros:

1) Excellent way to learn with the hands on materials.

2) the dissection kit and mat are helpful with this kit

3) The activity cards and booklet are fun and educational. Really helps them see what is going on.

Cons:

1) This is complicated and took me (an adult) a long time to get together. I could see this being WAY too hard for kids to do one their own, especially the skull. My older kids (10, 13) were able to get the full body model together mostly by themselves

2) The pieces could easily get lost. I wish it would have come with some sort of storage kit. You could just put them back inside the models though and that works too.

3) The directions were difficult at times to see where things went. Better pictures and more thorough instructions would be helpful.

Overall, this is a great kit. I'll continue to use it for my kids as they learn about the body.

This kit is great. We got it for our kids for Christmas that range in age from 7-13. Not only did they love it and fought for turns, my husband and I had the same fascination with it. My husband recently became a paramedic and was wishing he'd gotten this kit a bit earlier. It's value for Human Anatomy education is excellent. For a visual/hands on learner, this is the way to go. I highly recommend this for anyone over the age of 6. The price listed by Amazon is more than we paid for it, I think we got it for around $25 at Costco.

My boys LOVED this right out of the box. I must say that they would not have liked it as much if the internal organs were not squishy. After all, what boy can resist a squishy toy? :) The "squishy-ness" factor really does make this a fun toy. In addition, they wanted to feel/squeeze all of the organs and would ask questions ... making this a unique and fun way to teach about the body's internal organs. I think this is the perfect, fun gift for the aspiring doctor, surgeon, or nurse.
