IMHO the first review is useless. It is more of a complaint about the distributor than the product itself.

I was looking for a frame to give as a birthday present to a grandparent. So I obviously did not want a frame that had many hi-tech features. Instead I needed one that was simple to use. The SPX12 is easy to use.

The good: Nice looking frame, wall mountable and pictures look great. Easy to load from a camera card or USB flash drive. This method is recommended (instead of copy and paste from PC) because it will compress the size of the JPG file stored and make each picture fit the frame. So with the internal memory of 256K, you can get over 1000 pictures. I did not experience any delays in loading the frame as other reviewers did.

The bad: There is no random mode in the slide-show. So every time you start the frame, it starts with the first picture. You probably need to sequence your pictures before you load them or change the timestamp of the picture once its on the frame. The remote is small and once you figure out that the Exit button is the Menu key its pretty easy to use. As another reviewer pointed out, the company Smartparts seems to not exist and contacting support may be a challenge. But I called the 800 number and received a call back in a few hours. The company handling the tech support is Wynit ([...]).

All-in-all it is a pretty good frame. You can power it On/Off with the remote and it will automatically go into a Slide Show. But if a problem arises in the future, I may be stuck in the water unless Wynit can help.

One big recommendation: Get the biggest frame size you can afford. It REALLY makes a difference. I got mine at Radio Shack.

SmartParts is a defunct company - some else is selling their left over stuff and providing very skeletal support (for me no support)- I realized the hard way - bought a digital frame product for which remote did not work - tried to reach the customer service number listed to find that they have been disconnected. This is the second SmartPart 12X12 frame that I have purchased. I bought this one as a gift and downloaded my Mother-in-law's old photos to give her a slide show that she enjoys daily. I love the easy way to access and make this work for me. I would recommend and purchase again if needed.

Mar 2009 review: I bought one of these in Dec07 and it is an acceptable product, it display a good picture. While not perfect and a bit expensive, and warranty too short (90 days) it will display pictures that many will find pleasing. For a first generation of these it is fine. HOWEVER I had one feature that did not work. I called Tech Support, the agent was a bit testy and instructions on how to verify defect was a struggle due to bad & impatient communications by the rep. However it was finally agreed unit needed to be returned and I was told to fax in proof of purchase and then a RA & Shipping instructions would be mailed. That was Feb 10. I waited until Feb23 and had no communications back. I re-faxed and re-mail request after being unable to get a hold of a live person at Tech Supp & leaving vm msgs. Nothing has happened and again today 9 Mar tried again get a hold of live person at Tech Supp and main Company number, again no answer. It is totally impossible to communicate with any live person. Feels like the company went down or is under duress. I can't recommend this product if you want warranty or support. Wait until company revives, if it does. The equipment worths its cost! The only problem that I have up to now is that some AVI videos didn't work with this digital frame. The resolution is very good and its appearence either. I'm satisfiede.

I purchased this item from Crutchfield and it turns out you don't get the item descripted on Amazon. You actually get SPX12L which doesn't have the Album feature or the ability to view slides from 1sec to 1 hr or to view slides randonly. It only provides fast,normal,slow. Too bad because the frame worked well but could only play slideshow from beginning each time it was turned on.

I ALREADY HAD THIS SAME DIGITAL FRAME FOR MYSELF BUT WE PURCHASED THIS ONE FOR A GIFT FOR FRIENDS AS A 50TH ANN. PRESENT AND TOOK PICTURES AT THE PARTY AND THEN GAVE THEM THE SD CARD FOR THEIR FRAME TO ENJOY LATER. THEY LOVED IT ALSO. EASE OF USE AND PICTURE QUALITY IS GREAT.

Digital Frame received was not what I ordered so I was offered a discount to keep.
