I received this as a gift from my parents. When I opened the box, I thought, "Great... another item to stick in the closet." Boy, was I wrong!!
From the moment I removed it from the box, I was hooked. My husband and I spent hours just thinking up items to see if they were stored in the device. I can't think of one now that wasn't in there-but the cool thing is, we could add items to it!
I placed the Smart Shopper on my fridge, and was impressed at how strong the magnets were. It's really streamline, so it isn't bulky and in the way-I am always having things knocked off of the fridge by the kids.
Gone are the days of magnetic note pads on the fridge for writing up errands and grocery lists! As I run out of items around the home, I just walk up to the Smart Shopper, and tell it what I'm out of. It even knows the different errands I need to run-I can tell it I need to go to the post office, the bank, the school, dry cleaners, you name it!! It keeps it all stored together until I'm ready to print.
When I'm ready to go shop for the day, I simply print out the list, and it categorizes my grocery items by department-a real time saver when you don't want to backtrack all around the store!:) The print out is clear and easy to read (ever forget your glasses?) and the print-out is on paper like adding machine tape-I just slip it into my purse or wallet, no bulky list to fold up.
It also prints my errands on the same list-which means I don't come back home only to realize I've forgotten my husbands shirts at the dry cleaners, AGAIN-which is a real pain as I live in a rural area-you just don't head back out if you forget something.
I love this product so much, every time someone new comes over, I have to show them my "sanity-saver" as I like to call it. I plan on getting one for my folks for Christmas this year, to reciprocate the favor!!!

My husband purchased this for me for Mother's Day. I love it. I have had no problems with the voice recognition and have found it easy to add items. I love the way it categorizes items, and that you can mark coupons next to the item as well as reorganize the order of the categories to match the store you are shopping in. The list is so easy to read and is organized when it prints. You do have to read the directions, but after a couple of tries it is really easy to use. I am going to try purchasing regular thermal paper rolls from ebay or staples and cut them to 20 feet. If it works, it will be a much less expensive alternative to purchasing the replacement paper (I can't understand why the shipping costs more than the product) I'll add to my review and let you know how this works. I am thrilled with this purchase/gift. I hope this helps. :)
OK. I purchased thermal paper rolls (2 1/4 inch) and they work!!! The rolls I purchased are 55ft, so I had to unwind and roll so that is fits in the machine (the replacements are 20ft) but it was totally worth it. I got three rolls from ebay for 6.99 with free shipping. This will last such a long time and is much less expensive than purchasing the replacement rolls made specifically for the product. I also wanted to say that I have had really good luck with the voice recognition. There have been a few items that have not been recognized, but it is fixed easily with the "learning" mode. I absolutely love this machine!!!!!

Verified Purchase
Have only had the unit about a month. I have a weak voice so it virtually never recognizes my voice, but I bought the unit for my wife hoping it would streamline the process of creating a shopping list. No such luck. I expected a small learning curve, but it is almost easier to write out a list. I was hoping we could stick it on the fridge and as we ran low on an item you could push record and say the item and it would be stored, but it almost never matches on the first try. English is our primary language and there are no accents to speak of.

I'm shocked to see so many people like this thing. I purchased this as a gift for my wife about a year ago, and last week I finally dropped it off at Goodwill. The voice recognition is absolutely awful. It would often take 10-15 tries to get one item entered in to the list, if it ever found the right one at all. Save your money and buy a pad and a pen with a string attached to it and mount it on the fridge. Seriously.

My husband bought this for me last year at Christmas because his sister recommended it. I love it! He thought it would be a waste of money and end up in the garbage can. Boy was he wrong! I use it every day to add things to my list. Some reviewers have complained about the voice recognition but there is a feature that allows you to refine the recognition to your voice. I have had to use that feature a couple of times and once set, it always remembers my pronunciation for that word. My favorite feature that you just cannot do with a handwritten list is that it sorts your items by store department. So, when you print you list, all the produce is listed under produce, all the canned foods are listed under canned foods, etc! No more running to the other end of the store because I missed something on the list!

This seems to be an newer version that what I have so I'm sure it works even better than mine! I might need to update....
